Greenville softball team wins at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD – Sydney Grote hit two home runs as the Greenville softball team beat Springfield 10-3 on Thursday.

Greenville scored three runs in the top half of the first inning then Springfield scored one in the bottom half of the frame. Greenville went up 8-1 with two runs in the second and three in the third. Springfield scored one run in the bottom of the third, and Greenville added runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make it 10-2. Springfield then scored the game’s final run in the bottom of the sixth.

Greenville had 12 hits and no errors while Springfield had eight hits and five errors.

Grote was 2-for-3 with two home runs, a walk, two runs and four RBIs. Baylee Petry was 2-for-3 and scored a run. Morgan Gilbert was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, a run and two RBIs. Haleigh Mayo was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.

Cassie Cromwell was 2-for-5 with a run and a RBI. Lani Shilt was 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and two runs. Chloe Sowry went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Megan Johnston scored two runs.

Caitlin Christman pitched four innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits, no walks and one strikeout. Grace Shaffer pitched three innings and gave up one run on two hits, two walks, one hit batter and one strikeout.

Greenville improved to 21-4 with Thursday’s win.
