Arcanum beats Versailles in OHSAA tournament softball game

ARCANUM – Arcanum shutout Versailles 8-0 in the opening round of the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division III softball tournament on Monday in Arcanum.

Arcanum took a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first inning then added six runs in the fourth inning and one in the sixth while holding Versailles scoreless.

Arcanum had 10 hits and no errors in the game while Versailles had three hits and four errors.

Arcanum’s Elle Siculan was 2-for-4 with two runs and a RBI. Gracie Garno was 2-for-4 and scored two runs. Macey Hartman was 2-for-4 and drove in two runs. Kaylee Wilcox was 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and a RBI.

Sydney Artz was 1-for-3, was hit by a pitch and drove in a run for Arcanum. Camille Pohl was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and a RBI. Eva Siculan was 1-for-3 and scored a run. Sam Hartzell walked and drove in a run. Lauren Lumpkin and Elliana Sloan both scored a run.

Versailles’ Caitlin McEldowney was 2-for-3 with two doubles. Lauren Monnin was 1-for-3. Kate Stammen walked once.

Macy Skelton pitched the complete game shutout for Arcanum, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out five.

Cori Lawrence pitched three innings for Versailles and gave up four earned runs and one unearned run on five hits and one walk. Monnin pitched three innings and surrendered two earned runs and one unearned run on five hits, three walks, one hit batter and one strikeout.

Arcanum now advances to the second round of the OHSAA tournament. The Trojans will play host to National Trail at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
