Greenville track camp to be held July 9-13

The Greenville track program will host its annual youth camp from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. July 9-13 at the Jennings Track & Field Center.

The cost of the camp is $35 per camper, or $25 per camper if two or more are from the same family. All campers will receive a T-shirt if signed up by June 29.

The camp is for students who will be entering grades K-8 in the 2018-19 school year. Students will learn the basics of track and field including hurdles, proper running techniques and introduction to field events. Daily games will be played that encourage running and physical fitness.

There will be a track meet for all campers beginning Thursday, July 12 with field events. All running events will take place on Friday, July 13 along with the awards ceremony.

Camp instructors are head varsity coach Bill Plessinger, varsity throw coach Matt Levek, distance coach Stephanie Lind and past and present Greenville track athletes.

Blackhawk Youth Football Camp set for July 13

The second annual Friday Night Under the Lights Blackhawk Youth Football Camp will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on July 13 at Mississinawa Valley High School.

The camp is for any student entering grades 1-6 for the 2018-19 school year. The camp is to teach fundamental skills and to have fun with the game of football. Each camper will have the opportunity to practice skills at every offensive and defensive position, learn to kick, play Air Force ball and have fun. The camp will be run by the high school and junior high coaches and upper classmen football players at Mississinawa Valley.

Angel Run 5k set for July 22 in North Star

The 21st annual Angel Run 5k in remembrance of all lost loved ones will be held beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday, July 22 at North Star Park just east of town.

The pre-registration deadline is July 13. Entry fee for pre-registration is $16 for all ages with a T-shirt. For ages 15-64 without a T-shirt entry fee is $9. For ages 15 and under and 65 and older, entry fee is $5 without a T-shirt. To buy a T-shirt only without running is $11.

Race day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. with an entry fee of $20 for all ages with a T-shirt. For ages 15-64 without a T-shirt, the walk-up entry fee is $12. Entry fee on race day for ages 15 and under and 65 and older is $5 without a T-shirt.

There also will be a Fun Run for children beginning at 8:45 a.m. Entry fee for that is $1 for pre-registration or on the day of the race.

Awards will be given to the top three male overall, top three female overall and the top three in each age category. The course is a flat, scenic course with times each mile, water stops and electronic chip timing. There will also be numerous door prizes given out. You must be present to win.

This race is part of the Darke County Wellness Challenge series. Proceeds from the race go toward a $750 Angel Run scholarship, the North Star Fire Department and the North Star American Legion.

37th annual Annie Oakley Golf Tournament planned for July 23

The 37th annual Annie Oakley Golf Tournament will be held Monday, July 23 at Turtle Creek Golf Course.

The Entry fee is $125 which includes greens fees for 18 holes of golf, open driving range, golf cart, golf and door prizes, lunch for each golfer and dinner for each golfer and a guest. There will also be a hole-in-one new car giveaway.

Entry forms can be mailed to Annie Oakley Golf Tournament, P.O. Box 1070, Greenville, Ohio 45331. Deadline to enter is July 6. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Cancer Association of Darke County.
