First Edison State Car Show to benefit softball team
The first Edison State Car Show will be held from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Edison State Community College on Looney Road in Piqua. Proceeds from the event will help support the Edison State women’s softball team. In the event of rain, the show will be held on July 15.
Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the first 50 vehicles in attendance will receive dash plaques. Cost is $10 per vehicle and motorcycles are also welcome.
The event includes music, food, door prizes and a 50/50 drawing. Thirty trophies will be handed out at 3 p.m., including the President’s Choice Award, presented by Edison State president, Dr. Doreen Larson.
Greenville’s Lauren Baughn and Bradford’s Victoria Smith are members of the Edison State women’s softball team which had its first season this year in a very brisk and snowy spring, which held them at a disadvantage. “A lot of the teams that we played went to Florida and played before coming back here and starting the season,” head softball coach Dan Cain said. “We didn’t do that, so it was tough.”
Proceeds from the Edison State Car Show will go toward a trip to Georgia in February so that the women can play before the start of their second season.

Greenville girl’s junior high tennis starting soon
Any Greenville junior high girls interested in getting ready to join the winning GHS girls’ tennis team when you get to high school should come out now and start practicing for the junior high season at open courts.
The open courts are held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at the high school tennis courts. Everyone plays and no cuts are made. The 2017 GHS Lady Wave, which had an 18-2 record, needs to groom the next generation of players. Tennis is one of the best sports for fitness and can be played for life.

Future Tiger Football Camp July 16-18
The Future Tiger Football Camp will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on July 16, 17 and 18 at the Versailles High School track.
The camp is for any football player entering grades 4-6. The cost is $35 per camper. Each camper should wear a T-shirt and shorts, Cleats are optional.
The camp director is Versailles head football coach Adam Miller and the camp staff will include current varsity assistant coaches as well as current varsity players. Basic football skills will be taught by the VHS football staff and campers will have the opportunity to learn many of the on-field techniques used by the VHS Tiger football team.

Angel Run 5k set for July 22 in North Star
The 21st annual Angel Run 5k in remembrance of all lost loved ones will be held beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday, July 22 at North Star Park just east of town.
The pre-registration deadline is July 13. Entry fee for pre-registration is $16 for all ages with a T-shirt. For ages 15-64 without a T-shirt entry fee is $9. For ages 15 and under and 65 and older, entry fee is $5 without a T-shirt. To buy a T-shirt only without running is $11.
Race day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. with an entry fee of $20 for all ages with a T-shirt. For ages 15-64 without a T-shirt, the walk-up entry fee is $12. Entry fee on race day for ages 15 and under and 65 and older is $5 without a T-shirt.
There also will be a Fun Run for children beginning at 8:45 a.m. Entry fee for that is $1 for pre-registration or on the day of the race.
Awards will be given to the top three male overall, top three female overall and the top three in each age category. The course is a flat, scenic course with times each mile, water stops and electronic chip timing. There will also be numerous door prizes given out. You must be present to win.
This race is part of the Darke County Wellness Challenge series. Proceeds from the race go toward a $750 Angel Run scholarship, the North Star Fire Department and the North Star American Legion.

37th annual Annie Oakley Golf Tournament on July 23
The 37th annual Annie Oakley Golf Tournament will be held Monday, July 23 at Turtle Creek Golf Course.
The Entry fee is $125 which includes greens fees for 18 holes of golf, open driving range, golf cart, golf and door prizes, lunch for each golfer and dinner for each golfer and a guest. There will also be a hole-in-one new car giveaway.
