Week 6 Prep Football Capsules: Homecoming festivities continue this week at Greenville

0

The festivities continue this week for Darke County schools as Greenville will celebrate its Homecoming.

The Green Wave will try to make it two wins in a row on the gridiron tonight as they host Vandalia Butler in the first Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division game of the season. Last week, Greenville soared back above .500 for the season with an overtime win over West Carrollton, 35-34. The win gave the Green Wave one more this season (3) than it had in 2017 (2) and there is still half a season to play.

The remaining Darke County schools have homecoming games scheduled as follows:

Oct. 5: Tri-County North at Arcanum

Oct. 5: Miami East at Bradford

Oct. 12: Twin Valley South at Ansonia

Oct. 12: New Bremen at Versailles

Here’s a look at this week’s matchups.

Game of the Week

Vandalia Butler at Greenville

Records: Vandalia Butler (3-2, 0-0 GWOC North), Greenville (3-2, 0-0 GWOC North)

Last year: Vandalia Butler 38, Greenville 14

Last week: Vandalia Butler 13, Xenia 7 (OT); Greenville 35, West Carrollton 34 (OT)

Outlook: Landon Eldridge now leads the GWOC in rushing touchdowns with 14 and ranks second in rushing yards with 906. Butler’s top runner is Ryan Martin with 371 yards and 7 TDs. Both passing games are similar so it could be another nailbiter at Harmon Field.

Up next: Troy at Vandalia Butler (Oct. 5), Greenville at Piqua (Oct. 5)

Other games

Mississinawa Valley at Ansonia

Records: Mississinawa Valley (3-2, 2-1 CCC), Ansonia (3-2, 2-1 CCC)

Last year: Ansonia 50, Mississinawa Valley 14

Last week: Twin Valley South 25, Mississinawa Valley 18; Fort Loramie 37, Ansonia 10

Outlook: Both teams are coming off devastating losses last week as each had high hopes for remaining undefeated in the Cross County Conference. It is a tale of two offenses in this one as Mississinawa Valley has more of a passing attack, while host Ansonia is more of a grind it out on the ground offense.

Up next: Mississinawa Valley at Fort Loramie (Oct. 5), Ansonia at National Trail (Oct. 5)

Tri-Village at Bradford

Records: Tri-Village (2-3, 0-3 CCC), Bradford (0-5, 0-3 CCC)

Last year: Tri-Village 45, Bradford 6

Last week: National Trail 45, Tri-Village 8; Tri-County North 48, Bradford 0

Outlook: Tri-Village will look to rebound from last week’s loss on Homecoming and get its first Cross County Conference victory on the road this week. Freshman quarterback Layne Sarver is among the county passing leaders through the first five weeks.

Up next: Tri-Village at Twin Valley South (Oct. 4), Miami East at Bradford (Oct. 5)

Arcanum at Bethel

Records: Arcanum (1-4, 1-2 CCC), Bethel (3-2, 1-2 CCC)

Last year: Bethel 52, Arcanum 0

Last week: Covington 24, Arcanum 6; Miami East 52, Bethel 28

Outlook: Both teams are reeling from losses at home last week. Nick Fry has 20 completions this season for 290 yards and 2 touchdowns for Arcanum. Ian Baker and Devin Keckler have combined for 16 of those catches for 247 yards and 1 touchdown each.

Up next: Tri-County North at Arcanum (Oct. 5), Covington at Bethel (Oct. 5)

Versailles at Anna

Records: Versailles (2-3, 1-2 MAC), Anna (3-2, 2-1 MAC)

Last year: Anna 52, Versailles 20

Last week: Versailles 27, Delphos St. John’s 0; Marion Local 44, Anna 20

Outlook: Versailles had a strong running game in last week’s upset win over Delphos St. John’s. Ryan Martin rushed for 139 yards and a touchdown, while Jake Poling ran for 112 yards and a pair of scores. Martin also completed 9-of-17 passes for 159 yards and a touchdown.

Up next: Versailles at Marion Local (Oct. 5), Fort Recovery at Anna (Oct. 5)
