Bicyclist injured in accident

GREENVILLE – A bicyclist was injured in an accident Saturday evening after being hit by a car.

At approximately 5:20 p.m. Saturday, emergency personnel from Greenville Township Fire and Rescue along with deputies from the Darke County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to State Route 118 in the area of Hunter Road in regards to a bicyclist hit by a car.

According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, a man was riding his bicycle southbound on State Route 118 when he was struck by a black Chevy Equinox, also headed southbound, as it attempted to pass him. The rider was struck on his left side by the mirror of the passing vehicle, throwing him from the bicycle and landing in the ditch along the west side of the roadway.

The rider was treated on the scene by Greenville Township Rescue before being transported to Wayne HealthCare for what was described as minor injuries. The female driver of the Chevy Equinox was uninjured in the accident and refused treatment by EMS.

The accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Department.
