Teen airlifted after dirt bike accident

ANSONIA – A teenager was airlifted for his injuries after wrecking a dirt bike at the edge of the village of Ansonia Saturday morning.

At approximately 11:15 a.m., emergency personnel from Ansonia Fire and Rescue, CareFlight and officers from Ansonia Police Department were dispatched to the area behind 130 E. Cross St. in regards to a single motorcycle accident with injury.

According to officers on scene, it is believed that a 15-year-old boy was riding a dirt bike on a homemade motocross style track on the property when he was thrown from his motorcycle while attempting a jump, sustaining injuries.

The teenager was treated by Ansonia Rescue for, what was described by those on the scene, as a lower back injury in which the rider stated he was unable to feel his legs. He then was transported to a landing zone established behind the Ansonia Local School building where he was then airlifted by CareFlight to Children’s Hospital of Dayton for his injuries.

The accident remains under investigation by the Ansonia Police Department.
