New Madison News: A pleasant time of year

It is the time of year for caution on roadways as farm wagons and trucks loaded with soybeans and corn are moving. Also you often encounter large equipment moving from one farm field to the next. This is fall in Darke County and it is a pleasant time of year.

Mums are gracing porches and flower beds to beckon those afternoon sun rays and reward us with color.

The annual parade of ghosts and goblins, and super heroines and heroes is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 28. So spruce up the hand me down outfits and check the seams on new costumes because it is time to rap on doors and hope for candy! The community trick or treat time is 2 to 4 p.m. The United Methodist Church is again offering a safe stop for little ones. There will be candy, too!

Fall brings a desire for a little change in our routine and the New Madison Public Library is offering some help with stimulating suggestions.

Craft and Create is a regular monthly event. If you like to chat and work on fun projects it is 1 p.m. on Oct. 19. A Genealogy Workshop is scheduled to take off on Nov. 13 and Nov. 16. If you want to delve into the past and know more about the ancestors, this will be interesting. The times are Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. and Nov. 16 at 4 p.m.

Lots of the patrons enjoyed the Winter Reading Program last year. You need to be over 18 to join in this fun. It begins Jan. 7 and extends into the month of February.

Book Clubs continue and you can join in the conversation at one of two offerings: Page Turners, second Tuesday of the month, at 6 p.m., and Femme Fatales, third Tuesday of the month, at 5 p.m.

Enjoy the cool weather, pumpkin cookies and small town life.
