Arcanum News: Congrats to our AHS athletes and AHS band!

The Lady Trojans volleyball team has set a new school record with 20 wins in one season this fall. The team has had a fantastic season and won their first tournament win over the Dixie Lady Greyhounds in the opening round of the OHSAA DIII tournament. Going into the tournament the team had just finished as runners-up of the Cross County Conference (CCC), and the naming of Coach Macey O’Dell as the coach of the year, and Camille Pohl named CCC volleyball player of the year. Joining her on the first team were fellow Trojans Audrey Heiser (junior) and Taylor Gray (freshman). Senior Macy Hartman was named to the all-league second team and fellow senior Sadie Sink received honorable mention. Congratulations Lady Trojans!

Congratulations to the 2018 boys cross country team earning the CCC championship! Individual champion was Tanner Delk, Coach Kessler and Coach Junkins were named CCC coaches of the year, and all the AHS runners including Tanner Delk and Logan Todd for the boys, and Lydia Shannon all CCC for the girls. Great job team!

The AHS Marching Trojan Band qualified for state competition at Piqua High School last weekend. They scored Straight I’s after moving from Class C up to Class B. Congratulations to members of the band and director, Mrs. Marsh!

The Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society (AWTHS), 123 W. George St., will host thee Darke County Genealogical Society on Thursday, Nov. 8 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. to learn about the research library they facilitate at Garst Museum in Greenville. You will also learn what materials the library offers as well as recognizing members who are first families, pioneers, Civil War veterans, and century ancestors. All are welcome!

A.R. Winery invites you to their fourth annual Halloween Party on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 6 to 10 p.m. They are located at 3564 Gordon-Landis Road, Arcanum. Come dressed in costume for a night of fun and prizes. The Best Dressed and the Scariest costumes will receive a prize!

Arcanum’s annual Bean Supper and Halloween Parade will be Thursday, Oct. 25; supper at 4 p.m. and parade at 6 p.m. Trick or Treat in the village will be on Sunday, Oct. 28 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Also coming in November is the Abbottsville United Methodist Church’s annual Harvest Dinner. Saturday, Nov. 3 beginning at 4 p.m. they will serve turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, homemade noodles, green beans, sweet potatoes, rolls, bread dressing, coleslaw, cucumber salad, cranberry salad, deviled eggs, punch and coffee for a good will offering. Desserts will be plentiful with homemade pies and cakes. You won’t want to miss out on this annual event! Abbottsville UMC is located at 4135 State Route 49, Arcanum.

Save the Date! The Arcanum A# Club (AHS Music Boosters) will hold their first annual Quarter Auction and Luncheon on Sunday, Dec. 2 at Arcanum High School. Lunch will start at 1 p.m. and the auction will commence at 2 p.m. If you’ve never been to a quarter auction, now is your chance to experience the fun! Proceeds from this event will help the Arcanum High School Band on their Disney Trip in 2019! More details to come.

Our quaint village of Arcanum has loads of festive activities planned for the second annual Christmas in Arcanum & Horse Parade on Dec. 8! Breakfast with Santa will be from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Arcanum High School, there will again be craft vendors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Arcanum Field House. Outside the Field House will be food trucks, including the Tin Roof Mobile Food, McNasty’s, Umami Bites, and Crème de la Crème Cakery from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., an ice sculptor beginning at noon, pony rides, petting zoo and live reindeer from noon to 4 p.m. Starting at 5 p.m. in Ivester Park will be the annual Candy Cane Hunt with tons of prizes for kids 10 and under. The Horse Parade and Santa’s arrival to town will begin at 7 p.m. After the parade, there will be a bonfire and Horse and Carriage rides through the park.

Arcanum-Butler Local Schools and the Alumni Association will again honor our Distinguished Alumni and Honorary Trojans, those individuals who have made a significant impact through achievements, actions and contributions within their communities and professions and serve as exemplary role models for Arcanum students. The Alumni Hall of Fame inductees will be recognized at the Arcanum Alumni Homecoming set for April 13, 2019. For a copy of the nomination form, check out the alumni section of the school website or one can be picked up in the Board of Education office. Completed forms are due by Feb. 1.
