Happy Halloween! Here we are in the last week of October already! “When black cats prowl and pumpkins shine, when shivery shivers run down your spine, when ghosts and goblins ring the chime, beware and be scared, it’s Halloween Time!” –unknown. Are you ready to let go of October? “One last witch, Races by; wipes October from the sky…” ~Rusty Fischer. It does not seem possible that we will meet November this week; it seems as if the race is on for the holidays whether we are ready or not!

This Saturday at 9 a.m. is the Baker Homes Story presentation at the Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society, 123 W. George St. In 1805 the Michael Baker and Catherine Smucker Family arrived near (what would become) Brookville, Ohio. Henry Baker accompanied his uncle, Michael from Somerset, Pennsylvania. Henry would marry Elizabeth Poe and from these two family roots, Baker pioneers and their relatives would settle much of the land between Brookville and Greenville, Ohio. There are many family ties to the Baker family in the Arcanum area; are you related? You might want to attend the presentation and find out! Don’t forget to put the AWTHS Christmas Bazaar on your calendar for Nov. 23 and 24. This is one of the best bazaars around with the nicest items and best prices.
