November has to be one of my favorite months; whether I’m working on something at the house, taking a walk, or driving to work or out through the countryside, I’m reminded of God’s blessings. What are you grateful for each day? Some of us write or perhaps blog on Facebook what we are thankful for, I encourage you to do this all year – maybe in a journal or in the back of your Bible, make a list of your blessings.
The Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society invites you to join them this Thursday, Nov. 8 for their program on genealogical research in the county. Learn about the Darke County Genealogical Society and the research library they facilitate at Garst Museum in Greenville. Learn what materials the library offers as well as recognizing members who are First Families, Pioneers, Civil War Veterans, and Century Ancestors. The program will begin at 7 p.m. at 123 W. George St., Arcanum.
On Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. local time, remember to “ring the bells” across this nation in remembrance of those who served and sacrificed for our freedoms. Join in with many organizations who are participating in #TollThe Bell. Bells will be tolled in communities across the nation, in places of worship, schools, town halls, public carillons, and cemeteries. Bells will toll in the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. at an interfaith service to mark the centennial of the Armistice that brought an end to hostilities, in what Americans fervently hoped had been “The War to End All Wars.” The World War I Centennial Commission has created a page on its website: ww1cc.org/bells where people can find information and tools to conduct the bell tolling, and to meaningfully commemorate the service of their local World War I veterans.
Grace United Methodist Church, 750 Arcanum-Ithaca Road, Ithaca, will hold their annual Holiday Craft Bazaar and Luncheon on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Items include crafts, unique gifts, candies, and baked goods. Please plan to attend and enjoy lunch with us.
Immanuel Baptist Church is again this year participating in Operation Christmas Child Shoebox, which is an opportunity to fill an empty shoebox (standard size required) with items for a boy or girl with small toys, school supplies, hygiene items, and other items that are listed on the website to be given to a child ages 2-4, 5-9 or 10-14 in a foreign country where things we take for granted are unavailable to them. Every shoebox gift delivered by Operation Christmas Child is a tangible expression of God’s amazing love. But a shoebox is just the beginning. It also presents an opportunity in more than 100 countries for our church partners to invite children into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ through The Greatest Journey. Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse International, led by Franklin Graham – son of the late Billy Graham.
Arcanum High School is again planning a Veteran’s Day Assembly on Monday, Nov. 12 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium. Local veterans are encouraged to attend and to sit in the front seats by the podium. This year’s speaker will be 2002 AHS graduate, Lt. Luke Marshall. Luke was born in Dayton, but moved to Arcanum in his youth and was very active in the community. He is currently stationed at the Naval Reserve Officer Training Command at The Ohio State University as an assistant professor of naval science, teaching navigation and naval operations to midshipmen.
Arcanum High School National Honor Society want to thank the students of AHS, community members, and Arcanum-Butler Local Schools staff members for their outstanding support of their Trick or Treat for Canned Food Drive. This year our students were able to collect plenty of items that will be given to local food pantries in Arcanum to help those in need. They would also like to thank the generous support of Sutton’s Foods who helped make this event a true success. The amount collected would not have been possible without their very generous support.

In the past this event has been heavily supported by the churches in southern Darke County and organizers wish to thank all those who have attended in the past.
