COVINGTON — J. R. Clarke Public Library in Covington has announced its activities for November and the beginning of December.
J. R. Clarke Public Library representatives will attend the Miami County Foundation’s grant distribution celebration at 10 a.m. Friday. The event is held at the WACO museum in Troy. The library will receive a grant to be used in several areas of technology for the library.
The library will host the Candy Cane Walk for children ages 3 through the fifth grade from 11 a.m. to noon Nov. 17 in the downstairs Community Room. Patrons can decorate a bag for hunting and collecting candy canes. After the candy canes are collected, everyone will enjoy cookies and hot cocoa and then will make their way over to the former Beeman’s Hardware to see Santa Claus. This activity is in coordination with the Covington Candlelight Christmas Celebration and sponsored by community member Christina Ashburn and friends.
J. R. Clarke Library welcomes the Upper Valley Wellness nurse, who visits the second Tuesday of every month from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Patrons can come and get their blood pressure checked, get a glucose screening or just ask questions. The advice is free.
Every Wednesday at J. R. Clarke library there is a YOGA Connection class in the lower level Community Room from 6:15 p.m.-7:45 p.m. The dates for class are Nov. 7, 14 and 28.
J. R. Clarke has a Beginning Crochet class every Thursday beginning at 6:30 p.m. There will be knowledgeable people to assist, and the group has a great time being together.
J. R. Clarke Library will close at 5 p.m. on Nov. 21 and will be closed on Nov. 22, Thanksgiving Day. The library will be open for regular hours on Nov. 23.
The J. R. Clarke LEGO Crew will meet from 3:30 p.m.-4:15 p.m. Nov. 26. All of the children have been building some amazing things, and this night will be no different. Patrons can come on in, be creative and build to their heart’s content.
J. R. Clarke Public Library has scheduled Joanie’s Floral Designs for a workshop on winter and Christmas home decorating at 6 p.m. Dec. 5. All participants will create two decorative items during this session. Live greenery will be used. This session fills up very quickly so patrons are encouraged to contact J. R. Clarke right away at 937-473-2226 to reserve a space for this workshop. The cost for instruction and all materials is $25, payable to Joanie’s Floral. The deadline for this activity is Nov. 30. A minimum deposit of $10 must be made at sign-up to confirm a spot. This workshop will take place in the library’s downstairs Community Room. Refreshments will be served for all participants.
