Greenville Elks Hoop Shoot competition set for Nov. 25

GREENVILLE – Greenville Elks Lodge #1139 announces the local competition of the National Elks Hoop Shoot Competition will be held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 25 at Greenville High School.

The competition is free and open to all participants in Darke County. Registration will open at noon with competition beginning at 1 p.m.

The Elks National Hoop Shoot is a free throw contest for youth ages 8-13. Beginning at a local Elks Lodge, winning contestants advance through district, state, regional and national competitions. The program is free to all contestants. The Elks help sponsor contestants and their families at every level of competition. One boy and one girl from each division will win a national title at the national finals and have their names inscribed in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Contestants will compete in one of three age groups: Ages 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. Contestants age as of April 1, 2019 will determine which age group they compete in. Contestants must be 8 years old by April 1, 2019 to compete.

Charger Country Armed Forces Appreciation Night planned at Edison State

PIQUA – The Edison State Community College Athletic Department will honor all members of the armed forces and civil servants during Charger Country Armed Forces Appreciation Night at the home basketball games on Nov. 9 versus Wright-Patt Air Force Base.

Past and present servicemen and women are invited to attend the games free of charge. The women’s game begins at 5:30 p.m. and men’s at 7:30 p.m. The Color Guard of the Veteran’s Elite Tribute Squadron of Piqua will march during the national anthem prior to the women’s game.

Edison State’s Office of Veterans Services affords veterans and their families with a single point of contact. Providing academic, referral and personal support services, the Office of Veterans Services aims to help ease access to higher education, foster success and build community.

Registration open for Franklin-Monroe Youth Girls Basketball Fundamental League

PITSBURG – The Franklin-Monroe Lady Jets will host their annual Youth Girls Basketball Winter Fundamental League beginning in December and running through mid-January.

The league is open to any girls currently in grades 1-6 with instruction to be given by FMHS Lady Jets basketball players and coaches.

Cost for the league is $25 per player and each will receive a T-shirt and free admission to the high school girls game against Arcanum at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 17, 2019.

The games will be held from 8:30 to 10 a. m. on the following five Saturdays: Dec. 1, 8, 15 and Jan. 5 and 12.
