ARCANUM – The Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society’s 15th Anniversary will be from 1-4 p.m. May 18 and 19, during Old Fashioned Days weekend.

The event is open to the public at their location at 123 W. George Street. The historical building will feature displays about the AWTHS original founders, history of the organization and building along with renovation photos. Tour the house and view display cases portraying the Arcanum School, old toys, and business memorabilia. You can follow this event on Facebook or their website: www.arcanumhistoricalsociety.org.

AWTHS will host their first Coffee & Conversation this summer with Kurt Troutwine. The event is scheduled for June 8 starting at 10 a.m. with an informal time of Kurt telling about his experiences about life in Arcanum and serving 31 years with the Arcanum Fire Department. Kurt has served as Fire Chief for the past 11 years. He lives in Arcanum with his wife, Linda and has two children and six grandchildren. Coffee and goodies will be served. The event is free and open to the public.

Coming very soon – can you believe it’s only two weeks until Old Fashioned Days? Yes, again this year downtown Arcanum will turn into a festival and for two and a half days there will be all kinds of activities in the main streets uptown.

OFD begins on Friday, May 17 .at 5 p.m. with an opening ceremony in Veteran’s Park.

Faith UMC at 101 E. South Street invites you to attend their 7th Annual Old Fashioned Days Rummage Sale, Bake Sale and Lunch Stand. It will be held on Wednesday, May 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, May 16 and Friday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come and enjoy free coffee and popcorn.

Congratulations to the Arcanum High School Concert Band! They received an Excellent “II” rating at OMEA State Contest last weekend! The band is under the direction of Heather Marsh.

AHS Varsity Boys Baseball team will be playing the Springboro Panthers at 5/3 Field in Dayton on Monday, May 13. This will be a 7 p.m. start and the Trojans will be the home team. Come out and support your Trojans at Fifth Third Field “Home of the Dayton Dragons.” Go Trojans!

Van Buren Township Memorial Service will be held at the Abbottsville Cemetery on May 26, at 1 p.m. with Greenville High School NJROTC members and Arcanum H.S. band members performing the services. The address will be presented by Larry Harter, member of the Pitsburg Trinity Lutheran Church.

Twin Township Memorial Service will be held at the Ithaca Cemetery on May 26, at 2 p.m. with Greenville High School NJROTC members and Arcanum High School band members performing the services. The Address will be presented by Larry Harter, member of the Pitsburg Trinity Lutheran Church.

The Arcanum High School Serve Arcanum day has been postponed due to weather and rescheduled for May 10.

Have you heard of Red Nose Day? Thursday, May 23 is Red Nose Day here in the United States, the purpose of this charity is to raise funds to help end child poverty. One way you can participate is to purchase a “red nose” at any Walgreens. There also are several U.S. companies partnering to celebrating this event including Walgreens, M&Ms Mars/WrigleyConfectionary, and The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have all partnered with NBC Universal to celebrating Red Nose Day.
