Bicycle poker run a success

ANSONIA — Carleen Beisner, one of the committee members for the third annual Red, White and Bike, a bicycle poker run held during Ansonia’s Fourth of July activities, was happy with this year’s event.

“We had 115 riders” said Beisner. “We are very satisfied with the turnout. It was about the same amount of riders as in the past. We all thought we would have more of the motorized scooters and were a little disappointed in that. Hopefully, it will grow each year.”

Yes, the motorized bike was a new feature this year to the festivities, with only two entries.

Winners in the five-mile motorized bike ride were Jimmy Meade and Dennis Wilson.

Additional winners were: Brad Shook, Kelly Priem and Debbie Jessup; Bonnie Seger, Tim Bulach and Zane Keller; Faye Harmon, Xander Irey and Daniel Klotzbach; and Kaye Lengerick, Bob Hartman and Donnie Lamb.

Meade, who served on the committee and promoted the motorized portion of the event, expressed his appreciation to Glee Thornton for giving him the scooter he rode in the poker run.

“If this wasn’t possible, I wouldn’t have been able to partake in this year’s ride,” he said. “I’ve ridden in the RWB the past three years the first two rode the eight miles with my handicap scooter. This is the first year I served on the committee, and with the help of Darrin Shook, formed the five-mile ride just for handicap scooters and power chairs which included myself and Dennis Wilson, both from Ansonia. I came in first place of this group. I look forward in serving on the committee and riding next year.”
