GREENVILLE — Winners of the oldest fair-goers contest this year at the Great Darke County Fair nearly imaged last year’s line-up.
The female winners, Lucille Thomas of Greenville and Mildred Leichty Dill of Versailles, returned to maintain their standing among the senior citizen status, while the male winner, Herman Kolb of Rossburg, is new to the contest this year.
All three of the winners are 105 years of age; Dill and Thomas, having been born on Sept. 10, 1913, and Kolb, who was born Nov. 24, 1913.
Each winner received $100 with the monetary prizes awarded by the Darke County Agricultural Society and Greg Peck Sound Service.
Both women are widowed while Kolb is married and his wife is 99.
When asked what they were going to with their prize money, Kolb commented, “You can’t do much with that anymore.”
Dill said since she has lost some weight, she will buy herself some clothes; and Bill Frankman, Thomas’ son, said his mother would probably buy herself an Italian sausage before leaving the fairgrounds.
The contest is held each Monday of the annual fair, which is dubbed Senior Citizen Day.
Soon after that contest was held, the first 250 seniors to arrive at the Second National Bank tent at 11:30 a.m. received 250 free sack lunches provided by Greenville Health & Rehab of 243 Marion Drive, Greenville.
