Union City grads awarded scholarships

UNION CITY, Ind. — Union City Junior Senior High School held its commencement Saturday afternoon, June 5, in the high school gymnasium. The class of 2021 graduated 72 students.

Scholarships, grants, military education benefits, etc. amounted to a total of $565,690 to further the education of the applicable graduates. This included $188,800 from 95 local scholarships. The following graduates received scholarships at the senior reception on Thursday, June 3.

Ian Glunt is the valedictorian of Union City High School Class of 2021. He received the Perry Valedictorian Award. He plans to continue his Journeyman Electrical Apprenticeship at Shockney Electric. While working at Shockney Electric he plans to start and grow BGB Farms, a diversified grain production company.

Ryan Armantrout is the salutatorian of Union City High School Class of 2021. He received the FFA Alumni, Bertie Teegarden Memorial, Carl C. Keller & Virginia Whitman Keller, James Moorman, and David L. & Carol F. Character Scholarship Award Scholarships. He plans to attend Hobart Welding Institute to become a welder.

Gabriel Addington received the Tony Puccini Memorial, Randy Players, Class of 1983, and the Lawrence Family Scholarships. He will be attending Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

Areli Banda received the Bertie Teegarden Memorial Scholarship. She plans to attend Ball State University.

Yareni Banda received the Bertie Teegarden Memorial Scholarship. She will be attending Indiana University East.

Crystal Breen received the Lady Indian Basketball-Larry Wilson Memorial Scholarship. She will be attending a trade school with Country Bones Dog Grooming.

Cameron Brengman received the Lawrence Family and Elijah Hatton Memorial Scholarships. He plans to enlist in the Marines and attend a trade school.

Savannah Brewer received the Class of 1983, Alumni, Lawrence Family, Dellarose Sickels, Kiwanis Club, John D. Wilson, and Martha Goodman Scholarships. She will be attending Ball State University.

Kyle Buckingham received the Lady Indian Basketball – Larry Wilson Memorial, UC Athletic Boosters, Class of 1983, Alumni, Lawrence Family, Thomas E. Leahey Leadership Award, Kylee Renee Wells, Wanda Mann, James Moorman, John D. Wilson, and Claire Lynch Scholarships. He plans to attend IU Bloomington.

Jodi Carpenter received the Lady Indian Basketball-Larry Wilson Memorial Scholarship. She plans to attend a college in Michigan.

Clayton Downey received the James Moorman Scholarship. He plans to attend Ivy Tech Community College.

Madison Garrett received the Sigma Phi Gamma, American Legion, John D. Wilson, and Lykins Family Foundation Entrepreneur Scholarships. She will be attending Ball State University.

Jacob Jefferis received the Lawrence Family, Steve Hinshaw Humanitarian Award, and Class of 1956 Scholarships. He will be attending Hobart Welding Institute.

Brooke Kniesly received the UC Athletic Boosters, Class of 1970, and St. Vincent Randolph Hospital Auxiliary. She plans to attend Ivy Tech Community College.

Skylie Lutz received the Lynn Friends Church, Lady Indian Basketball-Larry Wilson Memorial, and Walter & Mary Esther Schmid Scholarships. She plans to attend Indiana University East.

Lucas Lykins received the UC Athletic Boosters, John & Prudie Schmidt Broadcasting Award, and John D. Wilson Scholarships. He will be attending Defiance College.

Alexandria Partin received the National Honor Society “Make a Difference,” Mark Welch Memorial, UC Rotary Kim Peterson Memorial, Class of 1983, Alumni, Ft. Recovery Industries, Gettysburg Lions Club, John D. Wilson, and Edith Winn Scholarships. She plans to attend Wilmington College.

Jaala Price received the Bertie Teegarden Memorial, Randolph County United, and Duane E. & Ruby M. Wickersham Memorial Scholarships. She will be attending Indiana University East.

Taylor Rains received the Melissa D. “Missy” Lee Memorial, and Claudia Wise Scholarships. She plans to attend Indiana University East.

Hunter Reagan received the UC Athletic Boosters, Tony Puccini Memorial, Class of 1983, Alumni, Gene & Roberta Bennett Scholarship Fund, Adelsperger Family Endowment, Delta Theta Tau – Lambda Chapter, John D. Wilson, and David L. & Carol F. Young Character Scholarship Award Scholarships. He will be attending Marian University.

Tabius Reagan received the Tony Puccini Memorial, Class of 1983, Alumni, Jason Rickert Memorial, Stephen Family, John D. Wilson, and Gloria Godfrey-Larry Wasson Scholarships. He plans to attend Purdue University.

Erik Terriquez received the VH Cooper, National Honor Society – Senior Member, Bertie Teegarden Memorial, Kellie Stephen & Dave Furby Memorial, Wanda Mann, Doris Mendenhall, John D. Wilson, and Clyde & Sarah Alice Wise Scholarships. He will be attending IU Bloomington.

Chloe Wyatt received the Norman “Red” Young Memorial, Class of 1983, Gertrude Brady Memorial, Class of 1970, Delta Theta Tau – Myrtle M. Adelsperger Memorial, and VFW – Ron Moore Memorial Scholarships. She plans to attend Ball State University.
