Arcanum Community Garage sales are coming up next week here in town. They are scheduled to be June 23 to 26. The community welcomes all the visitors that we will have to experience small-town “garage sale-ing.” The Arcanum Preservation Society (APS) is also hosting a garage sale in the old Opera House (former city building) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, be sure to check it out. All proceeds from their sale will benefit the restoration of the building.

Have you made plans yet for the Fourth of July? Be sure to include the Old-Fashioned Picnic and bicycle parade in your plans as an option. This event is being hosted by the APS and will take place in Ivestor Park. There will be a church service at 10 a.m. and a children’s parade at 2 p.m. that day.

On Saturday, July 10, the APS will be hosting a Community Cookout from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. — more details to come. They are also looking for food trucks to come and join in on the fun. The APS has also announced that they will be open for tours on Aug. 7 during the Brick Street party.

Have you heard about FREE CONE MONDAYS this summer? Yes, Picnic’s Pizza and Grill is giving away free ice cream cones on Mondays. Check it out.

It was my pleasure to present the Arcanum Alumni Scholarship awards at this years’ graduation ceremonies. The Alumni Association is very grateful to the community, the local businesses and the alumni association members for donating to the scholarship fund. Last week, the Alumni Advisory Committee met and are already in planning mode for next year’s banquet set for April of 2022. Plans are being made to honor the 50-year classes of 1970, 1971 and 1972 at next year’s Homecoming Event, members of these classes are welcome to join the committee to plan the event for 2022. The 25 year classes of 1995, 1996, and 1997 will also be honored at the 2022 event, members of these classes are also welcome to join in on the planning. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact any member of the committee or send me a message at [email protected]. The committee is also looking for updated addresses of the alumni base, if you have moved recently please feel free to drop us an email with your new home address and/or email address.

Thank you to all who turned up for the Ithaca Cemetery Workday: Cub Scout 185 of Pitsburg, Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society, Arcanum Preservation Society and Twin Township Trustees. The oldest section of grave markers are almost completed as far as cleaning. It’s amazing getting some of the growth off to see actual names, dates and symbols. The D/2 will continue to work further cleaning and eventually the stones will be white again instead of black.

The Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society is open for rentals again this summer. The cost is $100. If you would like to see the inside of the building, there are photos in the “photo album” section of our Facebook page. Contact Carolyn Furlong to reserve renting the facility and for guidelines. Questions? Message them at email address: [email protected] or checkout the contact list of names and numbers on their website.

A combined Arcanum High School Reunion will be hosted by the AHS classes of the 1970s, but any AHS graduate is welcome to attend. The event will be held on Aug. 21, 2021 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the American Legion in Greenville! DJ Opie will be hand to keeps the tunes a rolling all evening long. Hope you can plan to join in on the fun.
