Euchre Parties to start up again

0

Euchre Parties have started again at the Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society on the first and third Fridays of the month at 1 p.m. Please contact Dave Flora at 937-692-8413 if you have any questions. Euchre parties were interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020. It’s time to get back in the game, ask your friends and family to join you for an afternoon of Progressive Euchre or Round Robin, this is where partnership changes after each round and players then move to different tables. It does not matter what your playing level is, everyone is welcome. It is a time to visit with friend, meet new people. and have a good time. Just a reminder for new readers, the AWTHS is at 123 W. George Street in Arcanum.

Mark your calendar if you would like to attend another Walking Tour of Arcanum. The AWTHS has had many people asked when another walking tour of Arcanum could be planned. The Walking Tour will be held on July 10, please meet at the historical society at 9:30 a.m., the tour will begin at 10 a.m. Cary Wogomon will be leading the Walking Tour featuring some of the older buildings and businesses here in Arcanum. You will learn little-known history of our brick-street business district which at first was only swampy streets with board walks. Cary, who is a third generation Wogomon living in the Arcanum and Ithaca area, enjoys history and continues his interest in learning more about what Arcanum was like before his generation started adding to Arcanum’s history. While he shares stores about Arcanum, Cary invites you to share what you know about the buildings. There is so much we can learn from each other. Community members riding in golf carts are also welcome. The rain date is July 17. Check the website, awths.org for information about other events.

Have you got your tickets yet? The Arcanum Fire Department is holding a Pork Chop Dinner Fundraiser on July 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and the dinners will be available for pickup at the firehouse at 208 South Main Street on the 25th. The dinner will include pork chop, chips, applesauce, and a dinner roll. Contact any FD member to purchase tickets or contact Chief Kurt Troutwine at 937-459-6405.

The Arcanum Preservation Society has decided to open a limited number of spots for food trucks for the Old-Time 4th of July Picnic and Children’s Parade. If interested please message APS on their Facebook page. You must have proof of current Insurance and Health Dept. certificate. Electric is available but no water/sewage. Because it is short notice we are waiving any entry fee.

A 4th of July Community Church Service will be held at 10 a.m. in Ivester Park Shelter #1. This service is being sponsored by Arcanum Faith UMC and the Gordon Grace UMC/St. Matthew ELCA Partnership. The worship service with special guest Chaplain Jill Bryan will make you laugh and leave you in awe with her magic while teaching the Gospel of Jesus.

The APS is also planning a Community Cookout at the Opera House on July 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. They plan to breakout the grill that day and serve hamburgers and hot dogs for a donation. They will be open until 1 p.m. or whenever they run out of food, whichever comes first.

There are more window sponsors to the Opera House as well this week. Signs are being printed as quickly as possible but there could be some delays as some of the windows are boarded over, painted over, or so high that the committee has yet to figure out the best way to put signs up that are visible. New sponsors to the window project are: In memory of Mayor Dick Graeff, The Snyder Family, Dick and Sharon Troutwine, Jim and Barb Deis, Tracy and Lori Harshbarger, Alan and Judy Fourman, Terry and Darla Rench, and Mike and Lorraine Swank – thank you for your generosity!
