February is the last month of winter and the shortest month of the year. But, even if its days are fewer, it is a period full of love and smiles that make it unforgettable.

Congratulations to Senior Jaxson Christ who was signed to attend Lake Erie College to play baseball at the college level! Way to go, Jaxson! Congrats are also in order to Brooklyn Miras who signed with Indiana University East to run Cross Country as a Red Wolve! Congrats, Brooklyn.

Two Trojan Basketball players were selected to the 22-23 District 9 Coaches All-Star Team! Congratulations to Nick Sharritts and Alexis Gibbons for this very esteemed honor! All WOAC honors went to the following Lady Trojans – Alexis Gibbons, Kaitlyn Toy, and Brooke Anderson. All WOAC honors went to the Boys basketball members – Nick Sharritts, Regan Christ, and Garrett Garno.

Congrats to the Arcanum 22-23 8th Grade Boys basketball team on a runner-up finish in the WOAC tournament. Way to go boys and Coach Colton Troutwine!

Congrats to Jacob Rice for setting a new school record in the 100 Freestyle at the Swimming Sectional meet at Trotwood last week! Ashton Paul, Jacob Rice, Charlie Barry and Robby Arling all qualified for the District Swim meet at Miami University!

The Darke County Science Fair is on February 23 at Greenville High School. The middle school will be represented by Madison Schwartz and Addie Wooten who are testing the best order of ingredients to make the best Macaroon Cookies and Abigail Stump and Reba Prestel are testing the strength of different kinds of tape. Good luck to both of these groups.

Representing Arcanum Butler Middle School were Lailee McCubbin, Aly Abelquist, Hailey Schroeder, and Kiryn Burns who participated in the OMEA District 11 Honor Choir Festival on January 14 and 25, 2023. In addition, Sky Kessinger, Myra Mikesell, Kayla Mikesell, Landon Urlage, and Kennedy Hayes represented the MS at the District 11 Honor Band at Troy High School on January 29. Representing the High School well and deserving of congratulations are Lily Kuhbander for representing us so well at the District Honor Choir. And from the band congrats go to Micah Arbogast, Clark Lemons, Kate Michael, Dominic Rhodehamel, Cohen Protzman, and Shiloh Brown for representing us so well at District Honor Band. All these fine music students made Arcanum proud!

Many thanks to the community for your support of the joint fundraiser between the Arcanum Alumni Association and the Arcanum Athletic Boosters during the JV/Varsity Boys’ Basketball season. We were thrilled to be able to offer Chic-Fil-A sandwiches at all the home games at the concession stand. It was a very successful program and it was made possible by your acceptance and participation. Thank you, Arcanum!

Make plans to attend The Historical Importance of the “Forgotten” Fort Jefferson. The Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society, 123 West George Street will present an informative discussion of the history and significance of Fort Jefferson on March 9th at 7 p.m. The presenter, Dave Heckaman, is a member of Friends of Fort Jefferson, researcher of forts, military life, and settlement in this area of Ohio, and co-author of “Iron Case Shot and Musket Balls at Fort Jefferson”. The Pitsburg Lions Club will be hosting a Pork Chop & Chicken Barbeque Dinner on Sunday, March 26th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (carry-out only). Tickets are $11.00 each (includes a ½ chicken or pork chop, applesauce, roll, butter, and chips). To purchase tickets please contact Brandy Buck at 937/423-5946 or [email protected]. All proceeds will be used for the FM Scholarship Fund. Dinners will be available at the Pitsburg Town Hall, 136 Lumber Street, Pitsburg on the 26th.

Save the Date! Friday evening, June 16th will be the first ever “Spirited Night in the Park” fundraiser, hosted by the Arcanum A# Music Boosters! This is an upscale adult beverage tasting and organizers hope to feature Ohio craft beers, ciders and local wines. Money raised at this fundraiser will help offset the cost of the Disney trip for the band/color guard students. More details and marketing materials to come in March!

On Saturday, June 17th the Arcanum Preservation Society will present a Monte Carlo Casino Night with games, food, prizes and lots of fun. The event will be held at the VFW Post #4161 starting at 5 p.m. More information to come! Be sure to put this on your calendar!
