Greenville boys and girls golf finishes top five in MVL tournament

SPRINGFIELD — The Greenville boys and girls golf teams competed in the MVL conference tournament on Sep. 28 at Locust Hills Golf Club. The teams battled the on and off rain for a chance at a MVL title.

The boys team finished second as a team with a 321. Senior Ethan Sunsdahl shot a 77 in the event, the seventh best score. Senior Aidan Honeyman and sophomore Drew Beisner both shot an 81, freshman Cole Oswalt shot an 82, senior Aaron Lavy shot an 87 and senior Bryce Blumenstock shot a 91.

“Extremely proud of the boys today. Definietly one of our best scores in the league tournament in a long time,” head coach Brian Stickel said.

The Lady Wave finished fourth in the tournament with a team score of 394. Sophomore Vera Cox led the team with an 88. Sophomore Sofia Chrisman shot a 95, sophomore Taylor Trissell shot a 105, sophomore Reese Addington shot a 106, junior Callee Moore shot a 117 and freshman Kennedy Schoen shot a 133.

Cox, Trissell and Addington all had a personal best 18-hole score. The weather didn’t affect them or the team.

“The tournament started in the rain and the girls handled the wet conditions well. The rain continued off and on for quite a while. The girls handled the changing weather well,” head coach Tracy Haines said.

The boys will play in the Southwest Division I Sectional Tournament on Oct. 3 at Reid Park North. The girls will compete in their Southwest Division I Sectional Tournament on Oct. 5 at WGC Golf Course.
