Darke County Sheriff Deputies along with Jay County Deputies, Southwest Mercer Fire Department, Union City Rescue, and Careflight responded to the scene.

FORT RECOVERY — On Saturday, Dec. 16, at approximately 4:27 a.m., Darke County Deputies along with Jay County Deputies, Southwest Mercer Fire Department, Union City Rescue, and Careflight were dispatched to the 14700 block of Ohio Indiana State Line Road, Fort Recovery, in reference to an accident with injury.

A preliminary investigation revealed a black 2012 Nissan Altima that was being operated by Cydney Smith, 22, of Salomonia, Ind., was traveling north on Ohio Indiana State Line Road. Ms. Smith’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a culvert before over turning and coming to rest into a utility pole. Ms. Smith was able to free herself from the vehicle.

Ms. Smith was ultimately transported to Miami Valley Hospital by Careflight for her injuries but has since been released. The accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
