DARKE COUNTY — “Art at the Mill” will feature the striking photographs of Tim Freeman from Friday, Sept. 24, through Sunday, Oct. 24. Most of the images on exhibit were photographed at Mt. Airy Forest, Cincinnati’s largest and oldest city park. As these photos will be on display during Bear’s Mill’s annual Fall Open House Oct. 9 and 10, no opening reception will be held.
“Art at the Mill,” curated by Jan Roestamadji and Julie Clark, is free and open to the public.
“Being a photographer myself, I find Tim’s images beautiful, almost ethereal,” Ms. Roestamadji stated. “He brings out the fine art in his captures, drawing the viewer in and evoking a sense of awareness, a feeling of being there,” she concluded.
Julie Clark agrees with that assessment, finding Mr. Freeman’s insightful work masterful while at the same time simple and natural, radiating a soft, mystic dimension. “Tim’s beautiful photos are perfect for the Clark Gallery, offering a unique view of nature that correlates with the rustic Mill and its charming setting,” Ms. Clark said, then added “And his work is very, very reasonable priced.”
Cincinnati native Tim Freeman says that photography is what he does for fun, offering respite from his busy days working as a family doctor, but he adds “It’s something that I simply can’t not do.” The self taught photographer captures dramatic beauty in seemingly simple scenes one sees in daily life, then aptly communicates what he sees to others. Although when Tim was a child his mother dabbled in charcoal and pencil drawing, the physician had no particular interest in artistic endeavors until he saw some friends’ “beautiful pictures of ordinary stuff.” Then his wife gave him a camera.
Mr. Freeman’s own beautiful images of “ordinary stuff” have been exhibited at art shows and galleries in and around Cincinnati for over a decade now. The artist, who prints his own work on rice paper and then frames each piece, says that he just hopes people enjoy his work.
Also, glittering glass vessels created by Cedarville glass blower Jim Delange and Simon LaBozetta’s evocative paintings will continue to be on display in the Clark Gallery through Sept. 19.
The Clark Gallery and the Mill Shop are operated by Friends of Bear’s Mill; the Mill and surrounding grounds are the newest addition to Darke County Parks. Bear’s Mill is located at 6450 Arcanum-Bear’s Mill Road, about 5 miles east of Greenville.
“Art At the Mill” is funded in part by a grant from Darke County Endowment for the Arts, and can be viewed during regular Mill store hours, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
