Tri-Village tops Mississinawa Valley 1-0 in the OHSAA baseball tournament

NEW MADISON – Jonny Wilson pitched a shutout and drove in the winning run as the Tri-Village baseball team beat Mississinawa Valley 1-0 in the Ohio High School Athletic Association tournament on Wednesday.

The game’s only run came in the bottom of the sixth. Tri-Village’s Jordan Buckley led off with a walk and then stole second and third. Wilson then drove him in with a single into right-center.

Mississinawa Valley threatened in the seventh inning with a pair of hits. Andrew Johns and Trent Collins hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning to put two on with no outs.

Mississinawa Valley tried to put down a sacrifice bunt, but Wilson quickly fielded it and threw out the lead runner at third. The Patriots got the second out of the inning on a fielder’s choice at third, and Wilson struck out the game’s final batter to strand two runners and preserve the 1-0 victory.

Tri-Village had three hits and one error in the game while Mississinawa Valley had four hits and no errors.

Wilson pitched the complete game shutout to earn the winning, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out five for the Patriots.

Colyn Nelson pitched the complete game for Mississinawa, allowing one run on three hits and four walks while striking out seven.

Johns led Mississinawa Valley at the plate as he went 2-for-3. Collins and Ethan Bowman also had hits.

For Tri-Village Wilson had a hit and the game’s only RBI while Buckley scored the game’s only run. Christian Ricker and Tanner Maples also had hits.

Maples’ hit gave him 127 for his career, tying his brother, Ryan Maples, for most in Tri-Village history.

Tri-Village now advances to lay Franklin Monroe in the sectional finals on May 18 in Covington.
