Lady Wave tennis defeats Eaton

Greenville’s Anja Mertel returns a shot in first singles during a girls tennis match against Eaton on Wednesday in Greenville.

GREENVILLE – The Greenville girls tennis team improved to 5-6 on the season Wednesday with a 3-2 win against Eaton.

In first singles Greenville’s Anja Mertel beat Tess Flynn 6-4, 6-4. In second singles the Lady Wave’s Molly Hunt lost 3-6, 6-1, 5-7 to Rebecca Wolf. In third singles the Wave’s Anna Manges beat Maria Kern 6-2, 6-2.

In first doubles the Lady Wave’s Molly Hunt and Neeps Kaur beat Kyra Houle and Honoka Sato 6-2, 6-2. In second doubles Greenville’s Hannah Gulley and Larisa Schmitmeyer lost 3-7, 6-3, 6-7 to Barbara Ann Grant and Mariah Brewer.

Marabelle Lance and Chloe Graves won junior varsity singles matches for Greenville.

On Tuesday the Greenville girls lost 4-1 at Troy.

Greenville’s lone win came at third singles where Anna Manges beat Ashley Bruns 6-3, 7-5. In first singles the Lady Wave’s Anja Mertel lost to Hannah Essick 6-0, 6-2. In second singles Molly Hunt lost to Maggie Hennessy 6-1, 6-3.

In first doubles Greenville’s Mallory Rich and Neeps Kaur lost to Zoey Scancarello and Sierra Verstraten 6-2, 6-3. In second doubles the Lady Wave’s Hannah Gulley and Larisa Schmitmeyer lost to Meredith Pruitt and Katie Sherrick 6-1, 6-2.

Marabelle Lance won a junior varsity singles match against Troy.

On Monday the Lady Wave beat Xenia 5-0 on the road.

In first singles Greenville’s Anja Mertel beat Ally Landis 7-5, 7-6. In second singles the Lady Wave’s Molly Hunt beat Savannah Pucket 6-1, 6-2. In third singles the Wave’s Anna Mangas beat Peyton Mclain 6-0, 6-1.

In first doubles Greenville’s Mallory Rich and Neeps Kaur beat Jodi Collier and Taylor Stovall 6-0, 6-1. In second doubles the Wave’s Hannah Gulley and Larisa Schmitmeyer beat Abbey Friend and Grace McClelland 6-1, 6-0.

Marabelle Lance won a junior varsity singles match against Xenia while Casey Malott and Amber Hutt won in doubles and Katie Baughman and Rose Blocher also won in doubles.

On Friday the Lady Wave lost at Tippecanoe 4-1.

Greenville’s one win came at first doubles where Mallory Rich and Neeps Kaur beat Ali Merrick and Victoria Nordquist 3-6, 6-2, 7-6. In second doubles the Lady Wave’s Hannah Gulley and Larisa Schmitmeyer lost to Sophia McDow and Sydney Lehman 6-4, 6-1.

In first singles Anja Mertel lost to Kennedy Reeder 6-0, 0-6, 6-1. In second singles Molly Hung lost to Ladia Coning 6-1, 6-2. In third singles the Wave’s Anja Mertel lost to Jordan Jones 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

On Aug. 20 the Lady Wave tennis team lost at Northmont 4-1.

Greenville’s lone win came at second doubles where Casey Malott and Hannah Gulley beat Whitney White and Lauren Kelsey 4-6, 6-4, 7-6. In first doubles the Lady Wave’s Mallory Rich and Neeps Kaur lost to Michelle Hibbard and Morgan Grandfield 6-4, 2-6, 7-6.

In first singles Greenville’s Molly Hunt lost to Akilah Parker 6-0, 6-0. In second singles the Wave’s Anja Mertel lost to Marissa Anderson 6-0, 6-0. In third singles the Lady Wave’s Anna Manges lost to Kennedy Harden 6-0, 6-3.

Marabelle Lance and Amber Hutt won one junior varsity doubles match while Chloe Graves and Jordan Warner also won a junior varsity doubles match.
