Versailles football player Kurtis Rutschilling named MAC defensive player of the year

Versailles senior linebacker Kurtis Rutschilling was named the Midwest Athletic Conference defensive player of the year.

VERSAILLES – Versailles senior linebacker Kurtis Rutschilling was named the Midwest Athletic Conference defensive player of the year for the 2017 football season.

Rutschilling recorded 106 tackles this past season including nine tackles for loss. He also intercepted two passes, forced three fumbles and recovered two fumbles.

Joining Rutschilling as first team all-MAC selections were junior defensive end Evan Hiestand and senior defensive tackle AJ Ahrens.

Senior center Levi Sherman, senior safety George Grow and senior punter Josh Steinbrunner each were named second team all-MAC.

Garrett Thompson and Noah Grisez made the conference’s honorable mention team.

Fort Recovery’s Will Homan was named the MAC offensive player of the year. Marion Local’s Tim Goodwin was named the MAC coach of the year.

Marion Local won the MAC championship with an 8-0 league record, Coldwater finished second at 6-2, and Anna and Fort Recovery tied for third at 5-3. Delphos St. John’s, Minster and St. Henry tied for fifth at 4-4, Versailles finished eighth at 3-5, New Bremen finished ninth at 1-7, and Parkway finished 10th with a 0-8 record.
