NEW MADISON – Tri-Village held its 12th annual boys basketball shootout at “The Battleground” Saturday, and the teams invited there certainly did battle.

The games were well attended and enthusiasm abounded for each squad.

The teams invited besides the Patriots were Bethel from Miami County, Purcell-Marion from Cincinnati, Jackson Center from Shelby County, Franklin from Butler County, Twin Valley South from Preble County, Richmond from Wayne County, St. Henry from Mercer County, Belmont from Montgomery County and Northeastern out of Indiana.

“We aim to get the best teams in the entire area to come and play,” Tri-Village assistant coach Mick Sagester calmly said. “Jackson Center made a huge run in the Division IV tourney, Franklin made it to the regional finals in Division II, and Richmond made it to the big school division final four in Indiana, and of course, we won it all last year in the small school division.”

The shootout ran from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. as the teams played in the two gyms at New Madison. The teams were awarded three games for their $100 entry fee. The squads played two 18-minute halves with a five-minute break for halftime.

“There were a lot of good teams here today along with a lot of good players that will receive some college attention,” Tri-Village head coach Josh Sagester said. “As for the Patriots, we finished up the shootout with a 3-1 record and a big win over a much taller Jackson Center squad. We will be small but very competitive, and defense will see us through most games as our biggest guy stands only 6-1.”
