The Pitsburg Church of the Brethren will host the Hoosier Harmony Quartet on Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. In April 2003, Hoosier Harmony Quartet was formed, bringing a fresh and exciting approach to Southern Gospel Quartet music in the Midwest. Since that time, they have continued to proclaim the gospel of God’s forgiving grace to congregations and events from Michigan to Tennessee and Illinois to Ohio. Members of the group are Tom Correll (tenor), Johnathon Dodrill (lead), Johnny Dodrill (baritone) and Steve Bahler (bass and manager).

If you love Southern Gospel Quartet music, especially the “old songs,” you will love the harmony and testimony of the Hoosier Harmony Quartet. The church is located at the west edge of Pitsburg at 8376 Pitsburg-Laura Road. The public is invited to come and listen to this nationally known gospel singing quartet.

Arcanum School’s most recent building project update release shows that masonry demolition continues on the MS/HS portion of the building. At this time, doors #4 & #5 remain closed. The playground and basketball courts continue to be off limits. The new brick installation is now underway on the east side of the elementary wing. The roof demolition has now been able to continue over the high school gymnasium after being slowed due to the weather. The old roofing material is being removed and new underlayment installed. The new metal will follow once larger portions are ready. Due to the recent weather, roofers may be on-site during some upcoming weekends in an effort to get back on schedule. Administrators apologize for the inconvenience to our neighbors. Access to the building will be available through the board of education office; as a general reminder that the elementary, middle and high school offices are closed for the summer.

This Friday, don’t forget the artwork showing by former Arcanum resident Christopher Madden and former Arcanum High School teacher Marilee Pallant at the historic Bear’s Mill beginning at 5 p.m. in the Mill’s Clark Gallery. The exhibit title, “Illuminations,” directly derives from Pallant’s description of her luminous paintings. The reception offering appetizers and beverages is free and open to the public. The artists will speak briefly about their work, methods and inspiration at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Christopher Madden will be giving Plein Air Painting Pointers to artists, professional or hobbyist, at 10 a.m. at Bear’s Mill. Bring your art supplies and recreate the beautiful scenes at and around the mill in any medium you choose. Meet in the Mill Gallery at 2 p.m. to share your artwork. Registration is $35. Call to register: 937-548-5112.
