ARCANUM – The Greenville boys golf team finished 15th in the Greater Western Ohio Conference’s postseason meet on Thursday at Beechwood Golf Course.
Greenville shot a 375 to finish 15th out of 16 teams overall and fifth out of five GWOC North teams. The Green Wave beat Fairborn, who shot a 399.
Greenville’s score improved from the GWOC preseason meet when the Green Wave shot a 381.
Junior Jason Shields led Greenville with an 18-hole round of 85. Also for the Green Wave, senior Andrew Harshman shot a 96, senior A.J. Bowers shot a 97, junior Logan Gonzalez shot a 97, sophomore Connor Null shot a 97, and senior Parker Allison shot a 98.
Vandalia-Butler won the GWOC North portion of the meet with a 300, Troy finished second with a 330, Piqua and Sidney tied for third with a 361, and Greenville finished fifth with its 375.
Springboro won the GWOC meet with a 298. Butler finished second with its 300, Centerville finished third with a 313, Beavercreek finished fourth with a 319, Wayne finished fifth with a 321, Fairmont finished sixth with a 326, Troy finished seventh with its 330, Lebanon finished eighth with a 338, Northmont finished ninth with a 339, Xenia finished 10th with a 244, Miamisburg finished 11th with a 348, Springfield finished 12th with a 351, Piqua and Sidney tied for 13th with their rounds of 361, Greenville finished 15th with its 375, and Fairborn finished 16th with its 399.
West Carrollton didn’t have enough golfers to record a team score, and Trotwood-Madison didn’t field a team in the tournament.
Butler junior Zach Crawford was the medalist for the GWOC tournament with an even-par 72. Springboro senior Austin Schoonmaker, Springboro junior Josh Gilkison and Butler freshman Austin Greaser all shot a 74 to tie for second. Springboro sophomore Jonathan Cloyd and Springboro senior William Frederick both shot a 75 and tied for fifth.
Butler’s Crawford led all GWOC North golfers with his round of 72. Butler’s Greaser finished second in the North with his 74, Butler senior Gannon Godsey finished third with a 76, and Troy senior Troy Moore and Butler sophomore A.J. Lawrence tied for fourth with a 78.
