RANDOLPH COUNTY, Ind. — A Randolph County man was killed in a single-car crash Saturday morning, according to a release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department.
Quinton G. Smart, 19, of Ridgeville, Indiana, was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Sept. 26, approximately 8:45 a.m., the Randolph County Communications Center received a report of a single-vehicle crash with a person lying in a field at County Road 1000 North, east of County Road 300 East.
Emergency personnel from Ward Township Fire Department, White River Township Fire Department, Randolph County Emergency Medical Services, Randolph County Coroner and Randolph County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene.
Results of the preliminary investigation indicate that Smart was traveling west on County Road 1000 North when he went partially off the north side of the road. He overcorrected, causing his vehicle, a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier, to go off the south side of the road. The vehicle continued across a yard and driveway before sideswiping a tree. This caused the car to roll multiple times across a bean field, where the driver was ejected, before coming to a rest in a wooded area west of the bean field.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Randolph County Coroner. Smart was not wearing a seatbelt.
The crash is still under investigation by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department and Randolph County Coroner’s Office.
