5 Darke County runners qualify for Division III regional cross country meet

CLAYTON – Runners from Arcanum, Bradford and Franklin Monroe qualified for the Division III regional cross country meet with their performances at the district meet on Saturday at Miami Valley Career Technical Center.

In the boys meet Arcanum junior Isaac Stephens and Franklin Monroe freshman Cole Van Hook qualified for regionals as individuals. In the girls meet Bradford freshman Karmen Knepp, Arcanum junior Marcy Bradshaw and Franklin Monroe freshman Nicole Brocious all qualified for regionals.

The top team finish from the Darke County squads came from the Arcanum boys, who finished 11th out of 27 squads.

Stephens led Arcanum as he finished 19th overall with a time of 17:35.55 to qualify for regionals. Also for the Trojans, freshman Tanner Delk finished 68th in 18:46.15, junior Michael Scott finished 71st in 18:47.27, sophomore Wills Troutwine finished 104th in 19:35.36, freshman Isaiah Hootman finished 117th in 19:54.69, freshman Jared Eberhard finished 143rd in 21:04.75, and senior Victor Alderman finished 148th in 21:33.48.

The Franklin Monroe boys finished 20th in the district meet.

Van Hook led the Franklin Monroe boys as he finished 22nd overall in 17:41.23 to qualify for regionals. Also for the Jets, Zach Gilliland finished 112th in 19:41.43, John Myers finished 115th in 19:52.37, freshman Ross Thayer finished 128th in 20:24.19, freshman Isaac Schmitmeyer finished 158th in 22:09.70, and senior Logan Medve finished 168th in 22:38.14.

The Bradford boys finished 26th at districts.

Sophomore Johnny Fike led Bradford as he finished 37th overall in 17:56.25. Also for the Railroaders, freshman Jackson Moore finished 142nd in 20:56.48, sophomore Kurt Hoover finished 154th in 21:53.58, sophomore Clay Layman finished 162nd in 22:16.13, and freshman Joe Roth finished 169th in 22:39.96.

The Ansonia, Mississinawa Valley and Tri-Village boys didn’t have enough runners to record team scores.

Freshman Logan Warner led Ansonia as he finished 127th overall in 20:20.62. Also for the Tigers, senior Austin Alexander finished 159th in 22:11.17, and sophomore Daniel Shaner finished 178th in 23:25.08.

Freshman Kamron Berghoff led the Tri-Village boys as he finished 184th in 24:14.78. Also for the Patriots, freshman Cameron Armstrong finished 189th in 25:19.97.

Junior Kaine Daniels led Mississinawa Valley as he finished 185th overall in 24:46.46.

Newton senior Brady McBride won the Division III boys race, which included 194 runners, with a time of 16:26.49.

Fort Loramie freshman Jake Rethman set the cutoff time for individuals qualifying for regionals at 17:53.18 by finishing 32nd.

The teams from Anna, Milton-Union, Botkins, Fort Loramie, Russia, West Liberty-Salem, Newton and Houston qualified for regionals from the boys meet.

Arcanum led the Darke County girls teams as the Lady Trojans finished 15th out of 25 teams in the Division III district meet.

Bradshaw led Arcanum by finishing in 12th place overall with a time of 20:15.95 to qualify for the regional meet. Also for the Lady Trojans, sophomore Mara Wetzel finished 66th in 22:36.16, freshman Claire Meyer finished 86th in 23:12.56, senior Maggie Heiser finished 148th in 26:31.76, sophomore Lana Johnson finished 176th in 29:42.01, and junior Allie Moore finished 183rd in 32:30.43.

The Franklin Monroe girls finished 16th at the district meet.

Brocious led the Lady Jets by finishing 27th overall with a time of 21:01.71 to qualify for regionals. Also for Franklin Monroe, sophomore Danielle McVey finished 100th in 23:42.00, junior Cayley Baker finished 106th in 23:57.62, senior Haley Robinson finished 131st in 25:21.59, junior Taylor Hackney finished 138th in 25:52.65, and junior Scout Meyer finished 157th in 27:16.45.

The Ansonia girls finished 19th in the district meet.

Junior Skyler Marker led the Ansonia girls as she finished 79th overall in 22:58.64. Also for the Lady Tigers, sophomore Katie Werts finished 99th in 23:40.11, freshman Trinity Henderson finished 112th in 24:20.11, sophomore Megan Bergman finished 122nd in 24:42.67, junior Stefani Garrett finished 141st in 26:09.02, senior Shelby Hartzell finished 143rd in 26:21.34, and senior Abby Helmke finished 152nd in 26:42.22.

The Tri-Village girls finished 22nd at districts.

Senior Samantha Holzapfel led the Lady Patriots as she finished 68th overall with a time of 22:43.63. Also for the Lady Patriots, freshman Emma Printz finished 115th in 24:26.54, junior Shelby Holzapfel finished 142nd in 26:16.66, junior Becky O’Connor finished 144th in 26:21.66, and junior MacKenzie Stucky finished 162nd in 27:41.83.

The Mississinawa Valley girls finished 25th at the district meet.

Freshman Casey Carrico led Mississinawa Valley as she finished 149th in 26:35.38. Also for the Lady Hawks, senior Megan Wilson finished 156th in 27:03.08, junior Whitney King finished 173rd in 29:33.87, freshman Isabella Barga finished 178th in 29:59.60, freshman Abby Abel finished 186th in 35:06.56, sophomore Piper Phillips finished 188th in 36:06.83, and freshman Addison Spitler finished 189th in 36:59.18.

The Bradford girls didn’t have enough runners to record a team score.

Knepp led the Lady Railroaders as she finished third overall in 19:48.61 to qualify for the regional meet. Also for Bradford, sophomore Chelsea Gill finished 91st in 23:27.36, junior Cheyenne Parke finished 134th in 25:38.09, and junior Adria Roberts finished 170th in 28.37.40.

Botkins senior Chloe Flora won the Division III girls race, which included 189 runners, with a time of 18:57.03.

Xenia Christian Ariana Nelson set the cutoff time for individuals qualifying for regionals at 21:09.42 by finishing 32nd overall.

The teams from Russia, Xenia Christian, Covington, Miami East, Botkins, Lehman Catholic, Fort Loramie and West Liberty-Salem qualified for regionals in the girls meet.

Arcanum’s Bradshaw and Stephens, Bradford’s Knepp and Franklin Monroe’s Brocious and Van Hook now advance to the regionals on Oct. 31 in Troy. The three girls will run at 11 a.m., and the two boys will run at 1:30 p.m. for a chance to qualify for the Ohio High School Athletic Association state meet.
