VERSAILLES – The Versailles Tigers had hopes of ending the regular season on a high note Friday night by defeating Fort Recovery.

A win would have given the Tigers a 5-5 record and an outside chance of making the playoffs. The Indians dashed the Tigers’ hopes with a strong second half en route to a 27-13 victory.

“Fort Recovery is a very good team,” Versailles football coach Adam Miller said. “The kids battled hard. I am proud of them.”

The Tigers looked good early, scoring on a 19-yard pass in the second quarter. The extra point was missed, but the Tigers held a 6-0 lead.

The Indians answered with 1:50 left before the half with a 19-yard pass of their own. Just like the Tigers, the Indians failed to convert the extra point, and the score was 6-6 at the half.

The Indians pulled away in the second half with two touchdowns, taking a 20-7 lead. The Tigers did not quit, and answered with a 2-yard run by Kyle Subler. The play was set up with a 70-yard pass from Jared Niekamp to Alex Wendel.

The Indians sealed the game with a 29-yard quarterback run on fourth and 1. The Tigers sold out for the run up the middle, and the quarterback ran outside virtually unscathed.

The Tigers moved the ball on the next possession but could not put any points up and the Indians came out victorious 27-13.
