Coldwater, Marion Local football teams finish atop AP state rankings

COLUMBUS – A pair of Midwest Athletic Conference teams finished atop the Associated Press’ state rankings.

In the final AP rankings of the 2015 football season, Coldwater from the MAC was ranked No. 1 in Division V and Marion Local from the MAC was ranked No. 1 in Division VI. Coldwater received all 23 first places votes while Marion Local received 20 out of 23 first place votes with Columbia Station Columbia, Mechanicsburg and Beverly Fort Frye each receiving one.

Along with Coldwater and Marion Local, a number of other schools with local connections are ranked in the final poll of the season. Wayne from the Greater Western Ohio Conference is ranked No. 2 in Division I, Miamisburg from the GWOC is ranked No. 13 in Division II, Trotwood-Madison from the GWOC is ranked No. 15 in Division III, Minster from the MAC is ranked No. 5 in Division VII, Fort Recovery from the MAC is ranked No. 8 in Division VII, and Covington from the Cross County Conference is ranked No. 10 in Division VII.

No Darke County teams were ranked in the final AP poll of the season. Versailles was ranked 18th in Division V in the first AP poll of the season and moved up to No. 15 the following week. However, the Tigers dropped out of the rankings after that and have remained out in the last six polls. Versailles is the lone Darke County team to be ranked in the AP football poll this season.
