DARKE COUNTY – As Veterans Day nears, area businesses offer discounts to those who’ve served their country. The following is a list of businesses that are honoring veterans on Wednesday:

Applebee’s: Offer a free meal from a limited menu.

Bob Evans: Veterans and active duty military personnel have the choice of the following menu items:

– Stack of Hotcakes (Buttermilk or Multigrain) – A stack of four fluffy hotcakes served with warm syrup

– Fresh Baked Brioche French Toast – Two griddled slices of rich, house-baked Brioche bread, dipped in real egg batter made with natural vanilla and cinnamon, then griddled to golden-brown

– Sunrise Breakfast – Two eggs cooked-to-order, served with choice of hash browns, home fries or grits, and freshly baked bread

– Country Biscuit Breakfast – A fresh baked buttermilk biscuit topped with one egg cooked-to-order, fresh never frozen sausage, creamy country gravy and shredded cheddar cheese. The dish is served with a choice of hash browns, home fries or grits

– Mini Sampler Breakfast – One egg cooked-to-order with a choice of hash browns, home fries or grits. It’s served with two fresh never frozen sausage links or thick bacon strips and freshly baked bread

Chilis: Offer a free lunch combo or a dinner meal from a selected menu.

Denny’s: Free Build Your Own Grand Slam from 5 a.m. – noon.

Friendly’s: Free breakfast, lunch or dinner from a limited menu.

Golden Corral: Free dinner from 5-9 p.m.

IHOP: Free red, white and blue pancakes from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Little Caesars Pizza: Free pizza or $5 Hot-N-Ready Lunch Combo between 11 a.m. and 2 pm.

Max & Erma’s: Free best cheeseburger in America combo meal.

Olive Garden: Free entrée for veterans and 10 percent off for guests of the veteran.

Outback Steakhouse: Free bloomin’ onion and a non-alcoholic beverage on Veterans Day. From Nov. 12 – Dec. 31 receive 15 percent off your purchase for providing proof of military service.

Red Lobster: Free appetizer or dessert during Veterans Day week (Nov. 9 – 12).

Spaghetti Warehouse: Buy one entrée get one entrée free coupon for their ‘Original Recipe Spaghetti’ from Nov. 9 – 11.

Texas Roadhouse: Free lunch from a special menu.

T.G.I. Friday’s: Free lunch from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

TravelCenters of America: Complimentary meal (up to $15) at participating TA and Petro sit down restaurants for a truck driving veterans.

It is recommended to call the specific locations to make sure they are taking part in these promotions. Now for some of the shopping and service businesses:

Bed, Bath and Beyond: 20 percent off any purchases from Nov. 7 – 11.

CJ Banks: 10 percent discount (all year long)

Great Clips: Free haircut or ask for a free haircut card which can be redeemed until Dec. 31.

JC Penney: 5 percent in-store discount.

Lowes: 10 percent discount (all year long)

County veterans events:

Veteran’s Day Parade

GREENVILLE – Any veteran in the area is welcome to participate in the Veteran’s Day Parade in Greenville on Wednesday. Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 57 Commander Robert Foster said the participants will be leaving Greenville Public Library a little before 11 and march to the courthouse on South Broadway, stopping in front of the clock.

Other features of the event will be a prayer, introductions, a 21-gun salute at 11:11 a.m., presentation of a wreath, and the playing of the National Anthem by the high school band. The combined color guard of the DAV, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion will also be in attendance.

Bean supper, flag burning set

NEW MADISON — The American Legion Post 245 will be hosting a bean supper and flag burning on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

The flag burning will begin at 4 p.m. with the bean supper beginning at 5 p.m. Both events are sponsored by the American Legion auxiliary.

HOLLANSBURG — Niles Richards Post 708 of Arcanum will be serving a Veterans Day Bean Supper on Nov. 11, starting at 5 p.m.

Cornbread and beans will be served for free, while sandwiches, desserts and drinks will also be available.

Ansonia bean supper

ANSONIA – The Ansonia American Legion will be hosting a Veterans Day free bean supper on Wednesday, starting at 5 p.m.; and steak fry from 5 to 8 p.m. both Nov. 14 and Dec. 12. Raffle tickets for the Veteran’s Day bean supper at the Ansonia are still available.
