VERSAILLES – Half of the Versailles High School boys swim team members are returning high school swimmers and half of the team are new high school swimmers.

Returning swimmers include seniors Quincy Baltes and Harrison Detrick, junior Kyle Dapore, and sophomores Pete Barga and Clint Morgan. New swimmers this year sophomores Adam Gehret, Mitchell Huelskamp and Nathaniel Nelson and freshmen Stuart Baltes and Cole Condon.

Quincy Baltes and Harrison Detrick are the senior leaders on the swim team this year. Both have experience swimming at the district meet last year. Baltes qualified and competed in the 100-yard butterfly last year at the district meet. He will swim backstroke, butterfly, individual medley and freestyle this year. Detrick qualified and competed in the 200 free relay last year at the district meet. He will swim butterfly and freestyle this year.

Kyle Dapore is the lone third-year swimmer this year. He finished strong last season and obtained his personal best times in the Coldwater Cavalier Invitational and the sectional meets. Dapore will focus on the freestyle, backstroke and butterfly events this year.

Pete Barga and Clint Morgan are returning sophomores this year. Barga will focus on the freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and individual medley events this year. Morgan qualified and competed in the 50 free and 200 free relay last year at the district swim meet. His goal this year is to improve his times. He will be a tough competitor as a freestyle sprinter and will swim other events as well.

Freshmen Stuart Baltes and Cole Condon and sophomores Adam Gehret, Mitchell Huelskamp and Nathaniel Nelson are new to high school swimming this year. Baltes and Condon do have some prior swimming experience. Baltes will be strong in freestyle and backstroke this year. Condon will be a strong competitor as a freestyle sprinter and will swim other events as well. Versailles’ coaches are in the process of determining what strokes the other new swimmers will swim. They are off to a great start, coach Penny Cromwell said, and will improve throughout the season.

Versailles expects all of the swimmers to score points in meets and to continuously improve their personal times throughout this season.

Last year the boys team won the Coldwater Cavalier Invitational, the unofficial Midwest Athletic Conference meet, and placed second in the Trotwood Greenon Invitational. The team is working hard as the Tigers want to win more meets this year.

The boys are coached by Penny Cromwell and Mark Travis. For the swimming schedule and updates throughout the season, visit the high school team’s website at http://www.versailles.k12.oh.us. Click on Athletics, click on Schedules and click on the Swim tab.
