A decade ago, Darke County Center for the Arts hosted “A Taste of Wine and Jazz” as a fun fundraiser. The concept was immediately embraced by the community, attracting not only long-time DCCA supporters but also many who had never before attended a DCCA event. The first “A Taste of Wine and Jazz ” was pronounced “a really good time” by almost everybody, and so was repeated again and again, continuing to provide good times.
Thus, “A Taste of Wine and Jazz XXIX” will be held on Jan. 15, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
What creates that good time; what makes this singular happening one that is eagerly anticipated and fondly recalled, creating an effect that lasts much longer than the event itself? One of the most obvious components is the location—Montage Cafe. Always warm and welcoming, yet evoking an exciting ambiance, Montage and proprietors Aaron and Michele Cox provide a unique friendly environment where almost everyone feels comfortable. For each “Taste,” Aaron and Michele create a bounty of luscious hors d’oeuvres and choose accessible yet interesting wines, adding to the good things that make for a good time.
For some of us, if the music is good, that’s all we need. Deron Bell and his “Jazz For You” band not only are excellent musicians, but are also intent on assuring that their audience enjoys a good time. They can play mellow, they can play rowdy, but they can really play; dancing may break out at any time. When bankers, farmers, teachers, lawyers, receptionists, doctors, chefs, and people from other diverse demographics enthusiastically move to the groove on the dance floor in downtown Greenville, that’s a definite indication of a good time being had.
Which leads us to another prime factor in creating a good time—the people. Some attendees come with a group of good friends, knowing that being with their crowd will guarantee fun for all. But individuals and couples often interact with friendly people they’ve just met, as well as folks that they already know or used to know—chatting and laughing and having a good time. Others may enjoy a meaningful evening with only their significant other; once upon a time, a proposal was offered and accepted at a “Taste,” providing extra added exciting good times for all in attendance that evening.
In addition to the above good reasons for attending “A Taste of Wine and Jazz XXIX,” your presence will support a good cause. Darke County Center for the Arts presents and promotes the arts, encouraging cultural enrichment in our community. The organization has brought delight and joy to lives for almost forty years through its Artists Series, Family Theatre Series, special presentations, and Arts In Education program which is presented at no charge to students in all grade levels in each local school district. Proceeds from the “Tastes” directly benefit these presentations, making possible the inspiration, comfort, and delight derived from the arts by minds, souls, and spirits of people of all ages and demographics. So, your purchase of a ticket to “A Taste of Wine and Jazz XXIX” is a really good thing that supports another really good thing!
