PITSBURG – The Lady Jets basketball team limped onto the court to play Milton-Union Monday night.
With limited personnel due to Allie Armstrong and Hannah Eley unable to play, the home team gave it a go … but Franklin Monroe would struggle and fall to the Bulldogs 58-34.
The Jets wouldn’t get on the scoreboard until 3:26 of the first quarter on two free throws by Tara Goubeaux and by then Milton had an 8-2 lead.
Kinsey Goins had some success inside, scoring five points straight points to trail 9-7 at the 1:03 mark … but the Bulldogs closed out the quarter strong with three straight fielders to lead 15-7.
Milton-Union doubled up the home team in the second quarter, scoring 16 points. Goins scored four points, Danielle McVey three and Goubeaux one for the Jets, who trailed 31-15 at the half.
Halftime didn’t help … the Jets played like they had cement blocks in their shoes as the Bulldogs jumped ahead 41-15, scoring the first 10 points and prompting coach Abbey Moore to call a timeout to try and get her team motivated to play some defense.
Milton increased its lead to 49-21 to end the third quarter.
FM won the final stanza 13-9, getting five points from Carrie Baker, four from Allyson Masterson and two each from McVey and Goubeaux.
Milton-Union went on to earn a 58-34 non-conference win over the Jets.
