Darke realtors association merges with Dayton group

DARKE COUNTY — The Darke County Association of Realtors has closed operations and merged its group into the larger Dayton Area Board of Realtors (DABR).

The merger with DABR became effective January 1.

Eric Brown, real estate broker and owner of EB Real Estate in Greenville, is serving as the Darke County representative to DABR. He said the Darke County Association of Realtors voted to disband and merge in October. DABR then presented the plan to its membership, which in turn voted to approve the merger in December.

“The Darke County Association has been around for at least 50 years,” said Brown. “This is important for our area realtors, but the public will feel very little, if any, change.”

“The reason we made the change is that the resources which the Dayton organization provides far outweigh what we have now,” he said. “When we dissolved we had only 78 members, while DABR has 2,500 members. DABR can provide what our members need, not only for the benefit of our clients, but for the community in general.”

“When selling property, most people use a realtor,” said Brown. “Now we will have more sets of eyes seeing our properties. It also gives potential investors in Dayton easier access to commercial properties for sale here in Darke County.”

Brown said the DABR membership was enthusiastic about the merger.

“They were very eager to bring us on,” he said. “They wanted to expand their footprint in Darke County and strengthen the relationship between members there and here.”

Brown also pointed out that the merger provides continuing educational opportunities for realtors in Darke County.

“They offer continuing education, which helps us keep up with ever-changing real estate legislation,” he said. “They also provide legal resources. As a small board, these are things we couldn’t always provide for our members here.”

As the representative to the Dayton Board, Brown will attend all its board meetings and bring the information gathered there to agents in the county.
