Tri-Village graduate Clayton Murphy breaks the 4-minute mile for Akron

AKRON – Tri-Village alumnus Clayton Murphy broke the four-minute mile barrier during a collegiate track and field meet on Saturday.

Murphy, a junior at the University of Akron, finished the mile in 3:57.11 to set program and Stile Athletics Field House records during the at the 12th Annual Akron Invitational.

Murphy’s time in the mile is the third best in the nation this season and just 0.24 seconds back from national leader Justyn Knight of Syracuse.

For his efforts, Murphy was named the Mid-American Conference Track Athlete of the Week. He also was selected as the MAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week
