GREENVILLE – Dan and Jeni Berger donated $5,000 to the Friends of Harmon Field on Wednesday after winning the Greenville athletics boosters’ second annual reverse raffle.

“Our point I guess in the drawing was not to win but to contribute so it didn’t make any sense to take it back if our point was to contribute to the athletic program at the school,” Dan Berger said. “And Friends of Harmon Field is something that has a long-term benefit for the community.”

The couple, who have lived in Greenville for more than 30 years, have two daughters who attended Greenville City Schools and competed for the Green Wave.

“Our kids did athletics when they were in high school here,” Jeni Berger said. “We love Greenville. We love the athletic program. Just really excited to be able to give back a little bit and support it.”

The boosters held their reverse raffle on March 19 at Paws Bingo Hall. They hope to increase their grand prize in the fundraising raffle to $10,000 in the future.

Friends of Harmon Field is an organization that seeks to modernize the athletic facilities for Greenville Senior High School. The group wants to provide a new track and field complex north of Harmon Field, make improvements to Harmon Field including turf upgrades, create a new facility for restrooms and locker rooms and renovate or replace the concrete stands, seating and press box at Harmon Field.

The estimated cost for the entire project is $4,925,000.

In addition to the Bergers’ $5,000 donation, Friends of Harmon Field has received a $15,000 donation from Whirlpool Corporation, a $10,000 donation from the Bill Belichick Foundation and other smaller donations.
