It gets complicated sometimes

Darke County Center for the Arts’ officials were thrilled at the overwhelmingly positive response to their upcoming presentation of The Texas Tenors at St. Clair Memorial Hall in Greenville on April 16.

The show has been sold out for weeks; for one brief moment, those DCCA officials thought that, aside from responding to disappointed potential ticket-goers about the unavailability of seats for the performance, their work was done until the popular performers arrived. And then, they thought again.

As part of the grant from Arts Midwest which underwrites the show, DCCA will also present a free “community engagement activity” involving the artists with members of the community served by the presentation. DCCA arranged with The Tenors (John Hagen, Marcus Collins, and JC Fisher) for a pre-show event “enabling a meaningful conversation with members of our community to enhance understanding and appreciation of the trio’s music, journey, and major influences.” Many concert ticket-holders will be interested in this session; however, some will have other obligations and preferences, making seats available for those who missed out on the opportunity to enjoy the exciting entertainers in concert. Happily, many local citizens without concert tickets can take advantage of this opportunity for an up-close and personal encounter with The Tenors.

However, the realization dawned on DCCA personnel that a logistical nightmare could ensue, with the number of people wanting to partake of the free event far exceeding the seating capacity of Memorial Hall. And if way more than 615 people show up at about the same time, fire and safety guidelines would be violated, creating a troubling situation for all concerned. What to do, what to do?

The sensible solution reached will not only help DCCA meet fire and safety regulations, but should resolve any unanticipated complications before they occur. Tickets will be required for the pre-concert event; these tickets are free and can be obtained beginning today at the Greenville Public Library, the Darke County Visitors Center, and by contacting the DCCA office at 937-547-0908 or [email protected]. All those who purchased tickets to the 8 p.m. concert have been notified that they must pick up their free tickets for admission to the opening session; seating for the community engagement activity is general admission. Only 615 free tickets will be issued; in the unlikely event that any remain by showtime, tickets will be available at the door; but if you plan to attend this pre-performance session, you are urged to obtain your tickets as soon as possible.

The Texas Tenors have accumulated a long list of awards, accolades and fans since their debut on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, performing concerts at prestigious arts centers and popular arenas around the world. Their shows incorporate humor and a touch of cowboy charm which pleasantly harmonize with their unique combination of country, classical, Broadway, and contemporary music to captivate diverse audiences, making the trio America’s new “favorite tenors.”

A full house can create unforeseen complications, but it’s a problem DCCA is happy to deal with. Even if you missed out on tickets to their show, you can still engage with The Texas Tenors at the event preceding the concert; but act quickly. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the free 6:45 presentation; following the dialogue with The Tenors, the auditorium will be cleared, and concert ticket holders can then enter or re-enter the performance space for the 8 p.m. show. And we will all live happily ever after. Whew!
