Mississinawa Valley softball team swept by Riverside

UNION CITY – Riverside run ruled the Mississinawa Valley softball team twice in a doubleheader on Saturday.

In the opening game of the doubleheader Riverside took a 16-0 lead with three runs in the first inning, four in the second and nine in the third. After MV scored four runs in the third, Riverside added six in the fourth and one in the fifth. Mississinawa then scored the game’s final four runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Mississinawa Valley had six hits and 11 errors in the game. Riverside had 14 hits and two errors.

Kinsie Blocher led the Lady Hawk offense as she went 3-for-3 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Taydem Elson was 2-for-3 with a walk, a run and two RBIs. Leslie Dirksen went 1-for-3 with a RBI and two runs.

Cassie Emrick, Abby Livingston and Paxton Scholl each walked and scored a run. Trinity Konwiczka also scored a run.

Scholl pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing eight earned runs and nine unearned runs on 10 hits, seven walks and two strikeouts. Elson pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowing six unearned runs on four hits, two walks and a strikeout.

Riverside won the second game of the doubleheader 20-3 in five innings. Riverside started off the game with three runs in the top half of the first inning. After MV scored a run in the bottom half of the inning, Riverside scored five in the second, three in the third and two in the fourth to lead 13-1. MV then scored two in the bottom of the fourth, and Riverside scored seven in the fifth.

Riverside had 20 hits and one error in the game while MV had five hits and five errors.

Elson went 2-for-3 with a RBI. Emrick was 1-for-1 with a walk and a triple. Blocher went 1-for-3 with a run. Livingston was 1-for-2 with a RBI.

Makayla Coning walked and scored a run. December Wright drove in a run, and Bailey Johnson scored a run.

Dirksen pitched the complete game and allowing 13 earned runs and seven unearned runs on 20 hits, two walks and one strikeout.

Mississinawa Valley fell to 3-14 with the losses.
