Summer’s free time has arrived for community youngsters and oftens it leads to the question, “What now?”
The New Madison Public Library will be filling those hours by providing a summer of good books and weekly activities to mark on your calendars. Join the reading program with the theme “On Your Mark, Get Set, READ!” Many good titles await check out. Lots of fun and adventure have been planned.
A big teen event is taking place Friday from 2 to 3 p.m. “Wreck the Journal” will allow creativity and self expression. It is a program planned especially, and only, for those over age 12.
Next week you will enjoy Marble Maze and this time is set aside for those age 5 and over. The program is set for June 16 at 11 a.m. Snacks are included!
Everyone looks forward to the Wildlife Encounter. Brukner Nature Center returns with a few animal friends on June 23 from 1 to 2 p.m. All ages, including adults, enjoy this experience. It is sponsored by the Robert Bennett Memorial. The reading program moves through July. It is valuable time and it provides fun during the summer vacation.
Camp Growth is another opportunity for young people at the United Methodist Church. This free summer school is planned for children going into kindergarten and including those going into sixth grade. Last year was very successful and now youngsters can return to this program to enjoy fellowship and delving into some class work that includes remedial academic skills, problem solving, community involvement, art, music, environmental studies, astronomy, Spanish, landscaping, cooking and Biblical studies.
The kickoff is June 17 with dinner and fun from 6 to 8 p.m. Pony rides, face painting, and a bounce house will be located at the rear of the church at 149 N. Main St. Chipotle is providing the food. Keep your child involved. Summer need not be a time of hearing that word: BORED.
Congratulations this week to Tom Renfro. He is leaving the staff at Tri-Village and moving on to a central office job in Auglaize County. He will be director of curriculum. Tom followed in the teaching tradition of his parents, Matt and Ann Renfro.
