Arcanum News: Summertime in Darke County!


Summer has set in with its usual severity – too much to do and too little time! Make the most of these long hours of daylight and warm weather.

Wedding bells and congratulations to John Montgomery and his bride, Erin. John is the grandson of former resident Virginia Clark and the late Ralph Clark, and the son of former residents Connie (Clark) and Paul Montgomery. John and Erin were wed on May 7, 2016. in Walhonding, Ohio, on the grounds of Indian Bear Creek winery.

She was a beautiful bride! Our niece, Ms. Brianna Bilik became the bride of Zach Fuge on May 28, 2016, at St. James Episcopal Church with the reception at the Fort Piqua Plaza in Piqua. Brianna is an AHS alum and the daughter of former residents Mike and Lisa Rhodehamel. Brianna and her husband, Zach, currently reside in Lexington, Kentucky. Congrats to Bri and Zach!

It’s a boy! A beautiful baby boy was born to former resident Jordan Greve and his wife Stephani. Bryson Ray Greve was born on April 26 at 2:47 p.m. weighing 7 pounds 9 ounces and measuring 20.5 inches long. Jordan and Stephani now live in Piqua. The proud grandparents are Greg and Terri Greve of Arcanum.

The Arcanum Alumni Association would like to invite area alumni to join the Alumni Advisory Committee, for the purpose of planning of the annual Trojan Alumni Homecoming, and also to help with fundraising efforts for the Alumni Scholarship Fund. Don’t forget that Arcanum Family Movie Night is coming on July 9, beginning at 4 p.m. with food from local vendors such as: Arcanum A# Club, Creme de la Creme, Nacho Pig and possibly more. Once again there will be free bounce houses for the kids to enjoy and free popcorn during the movie. The movie will be shown around 9 p.m. in the Ben Franklin parking lot, so don’t forget your blankets and/or chairs!

Arcanum Class of 1976 will have their 40th class reunion on Aug. 20 at the Arcanum VFW, 311 S. Albright St., Arcanum from 7 to 10 p.m. Organizers, Dixie Baker and Rose (Wetzel) Lambert wish to invite all classmates to put the date on their calendar and plan to attend. No RSVP, no entry fee, cash bar – just show up and mingle!

Arcanum school construction update – The main entrance is now closed while crews work on masonry and roofing in the area. The board office entrance is now open (door #3). Student and/or athletes should check with their coaches as to which door they should use for any activities. The final panels are being installed along with the completion of various details, including gutters, facia, etc… The masons continue work on the front of the building and the delivery entrance in the back. The project remains on schedule for July 31 completion.

Congrats to AHS student Erica Zimmer for finishing fourth at state in the shot put at the biggest track meet of the year! Way to go, Erica!

It’s that time of year is here again! The summer reading program “On your mark, get set, READ” started in early June at the Arcanum Public Library; there’s still time to join and runs through July 30; “This includes young kids all the way up to adults. You can register throughout the summer and join in on the fun activities, movies, and, of course, lots of books! Check out the summer reading program!

Do you have a collection you’d like to show off and share? Come on into the Arcanum Public Library! They have a display case empty and waiting for a new collection to fill it. Stop on in and talk to one of our staff members or call the library to reserve a month for your special display.
