UNION CITY, Ohio — A Union City, Ohio, man has been charged with felonious assault, a felony of the second degree, after he reportedly shot his girlfriend/roommate at their home on South Wintergreen early Friday morning.
Arrested was William Stein, 37, who is incarcerated in the Darke County Jail.
According to Union City, Ohio, Police Chief Mark Ater, Stein requested medics to the scene at 1:57 a.m. Union City, Ohio, Rescue responded and transported the female, whose name has not yet been released, to Wayne HealthCare, after which she was transferred to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, with what Ater called what he believes are non-life-threatening injuries.
According to the chief, the victim was shot in the lower extremities and buttocks area multiple times.
“We had an officer down there a couple of hours prior to the shooting after a 911 hang-up,” Ater said. “It sounded then like there was a verbal altercation but no one wanted to leave.”
Assisting Union City, Ohio, Police Department’s officers at the scene were detectives from the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
“It’s still under investigation,” said Ater after he contacted The Daily Advocate Friday. “We’re still processing the scene.”
He further noted there is a history of violence at that address.
