Versailles baseball team loses to Russia

VERSAILLES – The Versailles baseball team lost 5-3 to Russia on Friday.

Versailles scored the game’s first run in the bottom half of the first inning then Russia tied it at 1-1 in the fourth. Versailles regained the lead with a run in the fifth, but Russia scored three runs in the sixth to lead 4-2. Both teams then added one more run in the seventh inning.

Versailles had nine hits and two errors. Russia had seven hits and one error.

Kurtis Rutschilling went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a stolen base, a RBI and two runs. Austin Knapke was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Kyle Subler was 2-for-3 with a walk. Noah Grisez was 1-for-3. Noah Richard was 1-for-4. Keaton McEdowney was hit by a pitch and scored a run.

McEdowney was the losing pitcher as he allowed two earned runs and three unearned runs on six hits, one walk, one hit batter and six strikeouts in six innings on the mound. Richard pitched one inning in relief, allowing no runs on one hit.
