PITSBURG – Troy Christian beat Franklin Monroe 7-4 on Monday to eliminate the Jets from the Ohio High School Athletic Association baseball tournament.
After a quiet first three innings Troy Christian got a pair of runners on base in the top half of the fourth inning but couldn’t get any runs across the plate.
Franklin Monroe took the lead with the game’s first run in the bottom of the fourth.
Zach Cable led off the frame with a single into center field. Cable then advanced to second on a dropped third strike and subsequent throw to first base. Levi Altic hit a sacrifice fly that advanced Cable to third. Noah Koffer then reached on an error, which allowed Cable to score and put the Jets up 1-0.
The Jets didn’t hold the lead for long, however, as the Eagles responded with three runs in the fifth inning to go up 3-1.
Franklin Monroe cut into its deficit in the bottom half of the inning.
Timothy Lawson walked then stole second and third. Logan Ressler also walked to put a pair of runners on base then Bryce Filbrun hit a RBI single that scored Lawson, pulling the Jets to within 3-2.
Troy Christian started to pull away in the sixth inning with three more runs, increasing the Eagle lead to 6-2.
In the bottom of the sixth Franklin Monroe scored again, giving the Jets runs in three consecutive innings.
Altic led off the inning with a triple and scored on a RBI single by Trevor Collins, making it a 6-3 game. With a double by Ressler and a walk to Filbrun, Franklin Monroe had the bases loaded, but Troy Christian got out of the inning with limited damage.
In the seventh inning Troy Christian scored its final run of the night to put the Eagles up 7-3.

Cable led off the inning with a single, and Cade McGlinch reached base on an error. Cable advanced to third on a sacrifice fly by Altic and scored on a RBI single by Collins to make it 7-4.
