VERSAILLES – Versailles lost 8-4 to Triad on Monday in the first round of the Ohio High School Athletic Association softball tournament.
After Triad took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, Versailles reduced its deficit to 2-1 in the second inning. Both teams then scored two runs in the third inning to make it 4-3 in favor of the Cardinals.
Triad added one run in the fourth inning and two in the fifth to extend its lead to 7-3. Both teams then scored one run in the seventh inning.
Versailles had 12 hits and two errors on Monday while Triad had 10 hits and no errors.
Kami McEldowney went 3-for-4 with a home run, a run and two RBI. Anna Gehret was 3-for-3 and scored a run. Hailey McEldowney was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and a RBI.
Kate Stammen went 1-for-3 with a home run, a RBI and a run. Brynna Blakeley was 1-for-4 and scored a run. Mallory George and Caitlin McEldowney both went 1-for-3.
Cori Lawrence pitched the complete game for the Tigers, allowing eight earned runs and two unearned runs on 10 hits, three walks, one hit batter and three strikeouts.
