Franklin Monroe softball team defeats Mechanicsburg in district championship

PIQUA – In a game with only one hit, Franklin Monroe beat Mechanicsburg 1-0 on Saturday in an Ohio High School Athletic Association district championship softball game.

Franklin Monroe scored the game’s lone run in the top half of the first inning. Kennedy Morris and Chloe Peters were hit by pitches then Emilee Morris laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners. Kinsie Goins then had a RBI hit to score Kennedy Morris.

Franklin Monroe pitcher Emilee Morris threw a no-hitter, allowing no hits or walks while striking out eight. The final batter of the game flew out to Kennedy Morris and was the only ball Mechanicsburg hit into the outfield.

Franklin Monroe did commit two errors.

Franklin Monroe now advances to the regional semifinals where the Jets will play Riverside at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Greenville.
