New Madison News: Summer reading continues at library

Over 150 children have signed up for summer reading at the New Madison Public Library. Working on the theme “Building A Better World,” the staff has joined Brenda Miller, director, in giving area children a look at conserving today’s environment and focusing on future possibilities.

Wrapping up the July events, children can invent a better world from 3 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 20 and, using legos, design a better world from 3 to 4 on Tuesday, July 25. The inventions on July 20 will stimulate possibilities. This program will be for 7 years old and up. The legos fun is open to children age 5 and up.

The library continues to work with Camp Growth this summer. The summer school lessons at the United Methodist Church continues through July 27. The children travel down the street each Wednesday to enrich their summer. Your child can still participate in Camp Growth.

It is free and lunch is provided. It is designed to keep “learning” while on summer break. The classes meet Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and involve academic skills, problem solving, environmental concepts and Bible studies. The children enjoy the fellowship from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can learn more by contacting the teacher, Stephanie Baumgardner at 937-459-2616.

Its not too late to add a recipe and possibly a library memory for the book being published by the Friends of the Library. “Tapestries of NMPL” needs your input. Call the library for more information, or drop off a print of your favorite food or memory for inclusion in this book.

Congratulations this week to Betty and Lowell Rhoades. The couple celebrated 70 years of marriage.
